Quick Question about BMCC / Liberal Arts Major / Nursing Program

Published

I am a new student at BMCC and am a currently a Liberal Arts major (since you can't come in as a Nursing Student) and I have a few questions:

  • In order to avoid taking unnecessary LA classes (I'm paying for this myself), should I just concentrate on the 4 nursing pre reqs?
  • OR do I have to take a certain amount of the LA classes before I can take the pre-reqs and before I can get into the nursing program?

This is what is confusing to me... I don't want to take classes that I do not need.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Gianni,

Just take the 4 prereqs if you're entering the morning nursing program and if you're interested in the evening program you also have to take the additional prereqs after as well (ENG201, PSY240 OR SOC100, BIO426 and BIO 420). Don't listen to any liberal arts advisor as they don't know what is needed in preclinical nursing.

Thx so much for your reply. :)

I'm also in the same situation, I applied for BMCC For a liberal arts then to nursing in the evening, My GPA is 3.0 I know it's low to even consider nursing in order to enter , so starting from Liberal arts\ in liberal arts, I only need to take those 4 pre req?

They only take into consideration your GPA on the courses relative to nursing (ie. pre-requisites - mat104, bio425, psy100 and eng101). Those 4 are all you need for the day program. If you want the evening program, add the classes ddeguzman2 listed above. If you haven't taken chemistry, you will need che121 before you can even start the other science courses - unless you are exempt because you already took it (this is not factored into your nursing entrance GPA). If not, take that class your first semester, along with at least 2 other pre-req classes (ie. che121, mat104, eng101). Some classes you can take over the summer and/or online so look in to that as well.

Good luck!
