Questions about working for St. Louis University (SLU) Hospital

Published

I am hoping to get in touch with a current employee of Saint Louis University (SLU) Hospital. I am graduating in December and am checking out various hospitals for future employment. I grew up in St. Louis, but have lived in Alabama for the past 7 years. I am not very familiar with SLU Hospital, and I don't know any current or former employees. I'm wondering what it is like to work there? Are the units staffed well? Are there enough patient care techs to help the nurses? Does the hospital offer any tuition repayment or reimbursement programs? What is the benefits package like? Is it competitive? I'm leaning toward wanting to do Emergency Medicine, but it seems like most St. Louis hospitals do not hire new grads, unlike in Alabama. Are new grads hired into the ED or a critical care unit? (I'm aware there is a new grad program that SLU has, and I have already checked it out online.)

I know I will most likely be told to get in touch with a nurse recruiter, but I would like to speak with an actual nurse to hear what working for SLU is REALLY like. In Birmingham, everyone knows which hospitals are great employers and which to avoid like the plague. I'm just trying to figure out if SLU would be a good prospect or if I should stay away. Thanks!

I am also interested. This is the only hospital in STL still offering bonuses and with, what I have been told, a large population of traveling nurses. I don't think it's a good sign.

Hello sehartma, I don't have any answers to your questions but I was curious how your search was going. Did you find a job, and if so was it at SLU or in the St. Louis area? I'm a student nurse who graduates in May that wouldn't mind hearing about your experience!

I was also interested in finding out about SLU and how your search was going.
