  1. I am hoping to get in touch with a current employee of Saint Louis University (SLU) Hospital. I am graduating in December and am checking out various hospitals for future employment. I grew up in St. Louis, but have lived in Alabama for the past 7 years. I am not very familiar with SLU Hospital, and I don't know any current or former employees. I'm wondering what it is like to work there? Are the units staffed well? Are there enough patient care techs to help the nurses? Does the hospital offer any tuition repayment or reimbursement programs? What is the benefits package like? Is it competitive? I'm leaning toward wanting to do Emergency Medicine, but it seems like most St. Louis hospitals do not hire new grads, unlike in Alabama. Are new grads hired into the ED or a critical care unit? (I'm aware there is a new grad program that SLU has, and I have already checked it out online.) I know I will most likely be told to get in touch with a nurse recruiter, but I would like to speak with an actual nurse to hear what working for SLU is REALLY like. In Birmingham, everyone knows which hospitals are great employers and which to avoid like the plague. I'm just trying to figure out if SLU would be a good prospect or if I should stay away. Thanks!
  2. Thanks! I'll have to check about other gloves. The only gloves I've seen at my hospital are the purple Kimberly Clark gloves. I did some more research, and I found something that suggested my symptoms are indicative of an anaphylactic reaction. I have a hard time believing that considering I have no reaction on my skin to the gloves. :/
  3. I've been working in the hospital setting for 2.5 years now, and in the past month or so I've had 2 negative reactions while wearing the purple hospital gloves. The first time I reacted negatively, I was simply applying pressure to a pt's thigh for about 15 min. The second incident, I was standing in a pt's room discussing their injuries/interventions with fellow coworkers. Both times, I was wearing gloves and mostly standing in the same spot for greater than 10 minutes. Both times, my body temperature seemed to spike, I got extremely nauseous, and felt like I was going to pass out. The first time, I excused myself, ran to the bathroom, and threw up twice. Once my body calmed down, I was in a cold sweat and very shaky. The second incident was pretty much the exact same, however, I was able to not throw up. It's not my blood sugar that's dropping, so I'm assuming for whatever reason that my BP is plummeting when I seem to wear gloves for a period of time. What is strange is that I have worn gloves for extended periods before with no issue. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this sort of reaction. It's extremely embarrassing when it occurs, so I'd like to figure out what may be causing this to happen!
  4. That's good to know! St. Lukes and Mercy seem to be my top choices currently.
  5. You are correct! I am asking about loan repayment/forgiveness. Thanks for your help!
  6. I was wondering if anyone had any information on hospitals that provide tuition reimbursement assistance in St. Louis? I am about to graduate with my BSN in December from an excellent (but expensive) nursing school in the southeast. As I'm looking for jobs in the St. Louis area, a hospital that will help repay some of my loans is a big deciding factor. I know Barnes pays up to $12,500 on past loans, and St. Luke's pays up to $20,000 on past loans. Does anyone know what any of the other St. Louis area hospitals will help pay? I'm also looking at Missouri Baptist, but I haven't found how much they contribute toward loans. I would stay in the city that I'm currently in, but almost every single hospital here has decided that they will only pay toward FUTURE education loans, not past/completed education loans.
