I have been looking around for a position in or around Salt Lake City and I have come up with nothing. Gaswork.com, CRNAjobs.com, nothing. I have done anesthesia group searches, etc and still cant find any job openings there. Does anyone no about the market there? Obviously its not great but why not? THere seems to be demand for CRNAs everywhere else. If anyone has some answers or advice for me, I would very much appreciate it. If someone here works there or knows a CRNA that does, I would like to communicate with them if possible.

Thanks everyone.

Hello, I'm starting CRNA school @ Westminster this fall. The director/assistant both work @ Ogden Regional Medical Center. Also check the VA. I have heard that the area is very much an MDA stronghold. Good luck!!

I have also heard that CRNA's are not highly used in Utah by a guy from Salt Lake in our program. Not sure why this is, doesn't seem to be the norm of cost effective care.

CRNAs are not used very much at all in UT. There are a lot of med school grads that stay in UT or return to the state after school. Most MDs take lower pay to stick around close to family. There are groups but the largest and most powerful hospital chain in the state uses CRNAs very very little and only in the more rural hospitals. There are groups in areas but nothing like is seen in all the states around utah. Most UT natives end up taking positions out of state upon graduation. Pay is lower as well.

I shadowed an MDA from UT just a few weeks ago in my clinical, and he had some insight. He said that the market was pretty flooded, for CRNAs and for MDAs. He said that even MDAs take lower pay and more bread and butter type cases just to stay in the area. He actually moved from UT b/c he wasn't happy doing that kind of work.

He told me that if I was interested in working in UT, it was all name dropping and to start networking. He said he never saw a posting for a CRNA job - people just hired people they already knew. The pay I know is substantially lower in places too - closer to 100k or less. I would look elsewhere - you can get a job for 150k in TX and fly home to visit a lot :)

The University of Utah hires some CRNA's. The main hospital has about 7. I think they use some at the Moran eye hospital as well. You can see their wages at www.utahsright.com They are low $100K in pay. Utah is not CRNA friendly and the MD's keep trying to bring in AA's.
