Questions for 30 unit option nurses or diploma nurses.

Published

Im at the end of my lvn program and im considering the 30 unit option for my RN (i live in cali) , ive been told that once i get the 30 unit option diploma i CANNOT go back for my ADN or BSN (well i can but it won't reflect on my license) and im ok with that but my questions to you are. Can i get my MSN/NP ? Do you have any regrets about becoming a diploma nurse? Is there a big pay difference between diploma nurses and ADN nurses? Are job opportunities limited ?

Thanks in advance

I doubt that anybody is going to tell you this is a good idea. It is even printed on the advisement information at my former school that it is not advisable, along with the "space available" warning. Since you know what you need to know about it, you are going into the decision with no illusions. Good luck.

Call school that offer an RN-MSN/NP and ask them what they accept. I'm a diploma nurse but carefully picked a diploma school that offered credit classes from a university. My credits transfer. Back in the day, my aunt was a diploma RN and her credits didn't transfer (as I imagine yours don't) She had to start her BSN from scratch, clinicals and all, when she decided to pursue her MSN.
