Hello all, I took my NCLEX yesterday and took the whole 6 hours finishing my test with 265 questions. I am so devastated and been crying since yesterday. I am in such a wreck that I don't even have the strength to eat or get up from the bed. I studied so hard for this test but I can't believe that I did so horrible.
I have been above average student in class and all my friends passed with less than 100 questions. My parents work so hard to put me through nursing school and I let them down. It's just too many thoughts in my mind and I am soon scared to even try the Pearson registration trick. All I remember is a lot of multiple answer questions, 3 calculation, lot of priority questions too and my final question was a multiple answer which I am pretty sure, I got it wrong. Is there any hope that I passed?? Thank you in advance.
Thank you obloom14, I will be taking few days off and buy some more resources, so that I can pass the next time. I have faith in myself and God. I just need to pull myself together for some strength.
Thank you Nurse428, I have been crying since yesterday and it feels like my worst nightmare. I am losing hope but I know, I can't give up. I know God has a better plan for me next time. Thank you for all your support and encouragement.
@ereyes24: Thank you for all the positive thoughts, I know I can't give up but I am not sure, what I need to do different. I did all 1300 questions on kaplan and all the question trainers+watched the videos and read the content book from kaplan. I am planning to buy NCLEX exam cram, Saunders review and the prioritization book by Lacharity. My email is [email protected].
What other books do everyone suggest?? Please help!!
I am so sorry. But, still don't give up and wait for the official results. I have heard cases where people have gone straight to the CC page, yet still get their license. But if you really did fail, don't give up! The real failure is if you give up. This is a standardized test and it does not at all determine who you are, how smart you are, and what kind of nurse you will be. There are people who can simply pass this exam, but make terrible nurses to their patients. Just do not give up, keep praying, and keep moving foward. I know that it is difficult to look foward when it feels like your worst nightmare is coming true, but this will come to pass, I promise you! Pray, pray, pray! God will get you through this tough time (:
Sources to study?
Kaplan has helped me greatly, but if Kaplan is not helpful for you, maybe you can try the NCSBN learning extension course for the questions. That was helpful too. Getting a management book is also a great idea, as the NCLEX now has many management questions, and those questions can be very tricky. I would suggest NCLEX 3500 to practice SATA questions and people have said that Saunders SATA questions are also wonderful practice. The study guide from this site was also incredibly helpful at understanding the content.
Just take your time, don't use too many sources because you may get confused and even more overwhelmed. Stick with two or three sources. Figure out your weaknesses and strengths. If you are pretty comfortable with content, do not waste your time on it anymore. Just focus on questions, especially those SATA questions. Good luck. You are in my prayers!
Thank you so much for all the good words and support pumpkinspice555. I have been praying so hard and have faith in God. I am not going to lie, I am very embarrassed because all my friends passed and I feel like I left my family and my loved ones down. I have been a good, hard working student and I feel like I at least deserve to pass. This has hit me so hard but I am hoping,I will gather my strength and start it again on Monday. Thank you for all the resources too. Your help and support is so appreciated. I am a shy girl and I am so glad, I can express my thoughts and feelings here. God bless your heart.

I completely understand how you feel. Know that your true friends and loved ones are there to support you, not laugh at you. They are there to lift you up when you feel down and hopeless. I hope you are at least talking with someone close to you about this. You are doing this for YOU, not for anyone else, don't worry about what your friends may or may not think of you. Pass/fail, if you know you are meant to be a nurse, you will be a nurse! As long as you believe you are meant to be a nurse, nothing can stop you! Don't compare yourself to anyone and just focus on you, only you!
Thank you so much for your kind words pumpkinspice555. I finally sat down with my parents and talk to them about how it makes me feel. They have nothing but supportive of me and they told me, they are always so proud of me no matter what. I feel much better and day by day, it's getting little better. I want to be a Nurse and it has been my dream. I won't give up and keep working hard. I read your PM this morning and it made my day. I appreciate your kindness and thoughtfulness. Have a blessed day!!

I am so glad that you had a heart to heart with your parents! And I am happy to hear that they have been very supportive of you. You are truly lucky to have such amazing parents. The heartache will get better and better as time goes by and each day passes. Before you know it, your strength will be gathered and you will be ready to tackle the beast of a test again. You can do it, I believe in you! Keep us posted on your progress and if you need help, just pm me (:
I am sorry you didn't pass. You are not the first and you won't be the last. 30yrs ago I took mine 3 times. I never gave up even though I was devastated. Brush yourself off and get ready do take the test again. I found for myself it's not the content but answering the questions. So I bought as many question books that also had the rationale. If I got something wrong I did some basic reading on that topic. Too often people read into the questions. The answer is within the question. I wish you the best and believe in yourself!
Don't beat yourself up over it even though its hard not to, we prepare for 2 years to take this test and the last thing we want to do is take it more than once. That being said, I think some people get themselves so hyped up and nervous that they can't concentrate on the questions and that is what trips them up, not that they don't know the material.
Take some of the Kaplan practice tests and if you are scoring at a passing level than retake. The Kaplan tests are very hard, nobody scores high on them, I sure didn't even though I was getting nearly perfect scores on other practice tests. On test day, I fet these questions were the closest to the real test. Concentrate on questions rather than studying old notes, and then make an outline and study plan on whatever it is you are not scoring well on. Take your time reading the question, don't rush through it, many are tricky and are written in a way to throw you off. I had a questions on there that stated your patient is a pregnant woman who has gestational diabetes and which requires further teaching, etc. If I had rushed through it I would have chosen the distractor answer about her pregnancy when the question was really asking about a diabetic diet and would have applied to any diabetic from this patient to an elderly person. Also try to read up from Kaplan their method on how to answer a question. This method was a lifesaver because it would help you figure out an answer even if you had no idea what they were talking about. I don't remember it off hand, but it tells you how to decipher if the question is asking for an assessment, intervention, evaluation. Then you go through your answer choices and eliminate the ones that don't match.
I don't care what anyone says, we ALL have a topic or two that isn't our strongest. I know studying for OB was difficult for me, I could not remember the stages of labor and all of that I had to spend a lot of time on that.
Keep us updated on your studying, and remember, the way to pass this test is through the right strategy and taking your time to read the question throughly, not getting thrown off by distractors, and picking apart key information that is given to you in the scenerio.
Please feel free to post questions on here, we can all help.
265 questions doesn't mean much, but is more of an indication that you confused the nclex and were probably close to passing. The nlcex needs something like 90% certainty that you above the passing standard and if that can't be decided by the end of the test it use alternate measures. It is time to set out and study some more and attempt it again.

I enjoyed reading your motivation. I'm currently preparing for my upcoming exam and using Kaplan. I've been scoring in the high 50's low 60's and feeling pretty unprepared. I'm wondering if you felt Kaplan helped you prepare and are the questions close to the Nclex?
