Questions about Seton Versant RN Residency in Austin

U.S.A. Texas

Published

I have just been accepted into the Seton RN residency and can answer any questions you may have. I will also be creating a post throughout my experience in the residency. Ask away!

My only real advice is to make sure you go to the open house. I was unable to go to the open house and had a really hard time getting in contact with people and had to be very persistent in order to get a couple of interviews. Honestly I think I was just lucky in securing a position and wish I would have gone to the open house in order make the process a little easier. If you have an specific questions feel free to ask. I will be starting in the Feb. 3 cohort, so I should know more about the actual residency program soon.

Hey everyone!! This is my first post :woot: I plan on applying to the June 2014 cohort. Do y'all know when the open house will be? I don't see any announcements posted on their website. Any info would be greatly appreciated :)

Hey brandnewnurse, I have clinicals at Brack this semester and am also a student who has classes at the CEC (where Versant is held) and so far they do not have a date set up for the open house yet. I am keeping my eyes and ears peeled for any information on the open house.

Hey all, anyone getting their ducks in a row to apply on Feb 3rd? One of my instructors already submitted my letter of reference to them... do you think that will be an issue? I emailed the generic nurse residency email but I don't know how often they respond to it..

Still no word that I've found on the open house either... I can't imagine it'll get pushed back to March this time with the first round of interviews beginning in March.

Anyone else anxious to get this all underway?

I think I should have everything ready to apply when the application opens next week. I'm so anxious and excited! Do the faculty references have to be turned in before I submit my application?

Charisselyn- that I'm not sure about. One of my instructors already submitted mine so I emailed the RN residency email and am still waiting for a reply.

Does anyone know if the transcripts attached have to be official?

Also, did you see the date of the open house has been posted? Tues February 25th. I have a test that day (OF COURSE), but it's in the morning, so I should be good to attend that afternoon. Hope I can focus and do well on my test though!

On the site it says that transcripts may be unofficial.

Man, I have class that entire day. :\ Do you know what time it is?

I don't... but in the past it has been in the afternoon. I hope it is still that way this time.

This is a silly question, but when we apply, is there a set number of hospitals that we can apply to or are we applying to the residency program in general?

ctBSN14, that I'm not sure about. From reading previous replies to this thread it seems that you can apply for different specialties within each separate Seton hospital. I know St David's residency program you just apply to a general New Grad job posting.

I heard back from the Residency assistant and she said that they only accept references once the application period opens... so I guess I'll have to email my professor and see if she'll be willing to re-submit her reference. I hope she is!

Did ya'll see that they put up the Registration for the Open House? I signed up for the 14:00 slot. I figure that gives me enough time to focus on my test without worrying about being late to the Open House and also enough time to collect myself in case the test goes poorly.. lol.

It also gave me the option of choosing my top two specialties... it was hard but I put Acute Care as my first choice and then Critical Care. I'm really only looking into IMC for Critical Care but am open to almost any med/surg placement (though I'd really like Oncology).

Looking forward to officially applying on Monday!

I have class from 1-4 and it's an hour drive to get there. Time to talk to my professor, I guess.
