Questions about Seton Versant RN Residency in Austin

Published

I have just been accepted into the Seton RN residency and can answer any questions you may have. I will also be creating a post throughout my experience in the residency. Ask away!

Well...I applied to a lot of ED, but that was before I went to the open house so now I am hoping to be able to withdraw some of my applications and apply to other acute positions. I would love ED, but don't have any ED tech or EMT experience so they pretty much told me that I wasn't going to stand a chance. Oh well, there are other options out there. Seton is definitely THE place to work though, everyone seems to love it. UMCB had the most reps because I remember them saying they had twenty something positions they are looking to fill, hopefully I at least get an interview.

Overall, I think there were maybe at most 15 managers or HR reps from the various locations who were available during the 1pm session. There were some other admin/HR people in the brown Seton sweaters who were also available for just basic application questions. How many do you estimate were at your session?

I was expecting something A LOT larger and was hoping for something more promising, but it is what it is and I gave it my best shot!

Well, there was only ONE ED department from Brackenridge and yes he definitely made it clear saying if you don't have previous experience in there so no. But were there other reps from the other hospitals ED? I applied to the other facilities look for ED in hopes they will be nicer. I applied to like 3 ED, 2 IMC, OR, and the rest of M/S being Ortho being where my experience lies in. I hope we can hear something soon!! :)

Oh and btw I found out why HR hasn't responded back to me for so long with my requisition number. I called yesterday morning to find out they lost my stuff when it was being routed to HR. Thank goodness I called and waited the 30 minutes to talk to HR!

That's terrible. Good thing you called to find out!

ktlam - Did you happen to hear when the questionnaire for the OR residency will be sent out?

Hey! yeah mine is done! but you may want to call HR cause mine took awhile so I called them waited a long time on the phone but found out my application got lost between the Residency office and HR when it go routed. Do you have your confirmation email from the residency office saying its being routed to HR?

Yeah, I got an email today saying they were behind but they do have all my stuff. Also called about the OR residency and was told that only those who have been approved for the residency will receive questionnaires (makes sense) so I'm just waiting patiently!

poop on the waiting game lol! But HR was really nice so I know they will be as fast as they can. Good luck!

Yes, they are great just swamped which is totally understandable. I have a good feeling about Seton; they seem to be a great group of people!

I agree! But only if they had room for all of us!

Hey guys! So, I just wanted to add to the conversation about the Open House now that I am back in town. For those worried about having little experience in a specialty, I heard reps in the ICU units say--twice--they were more interested in finding a fit for the team--they want to like you...experience can always be gained on the unit. One particular team, however, also emphasized that they were looking for assertiveness. So, don't count yourselves out yet, and just hope you made an impression--though something hard to do in such short bursts between a sea of other people.

And I guess I was expecting less people there, because I thought the 1pm slot was way crowded...some lines took 15-20 minutes to get to the front. Oh, and there was a guy, with friends in tow, who walked in late, asked me what line I was in, and proceeded to cut right in front of me just as I was about to finally move up to shake a hiring manager's hand. He said he wasn't applying until the next cohort, just wanted to see what it was like...so why be so cutthroat and rude? Couldn't believe it!

HR staff was absolutely nice and helpful though.
