Questions about Seton Versant RN Residency in Austin

U.S.A. Texas

Published

I have just been accepted into the Seton RN residency and can answer any questions you may have. I will also be creating a post throughout my experience in the residency. Ask away!

I have to agree with you. Definitely was smaller than expected. I handed out 7 resumes but only focused in on surgical services, OR. All the hiring managers were awesome! I just feel the ER department is pretty much going to the UT students who are already doing their capstone courses there since there is only 4 spots so yeah. But overall, I can only cross my fingers and hope for the best from here :) what time did you go at? I went at 3 and I felt there was a strong pool of applicants there and I noticed there were more ADN vs BSN too.

Any advice for someone who is going to apply for the June cohort? Did most men wear suits? What questions did they ask? Thank you for any information.

Yes if you are a man, wear a suit! It just makes you look so much more awesome! Definitely have a stack of resumes ready!

That is all I can tell you as of now oh and try to have your application complete as early as possible so it can help speed up your process. Good luck!

I was there at 3! I gave resumes to the 2 ICUs, OR, and Dell Children's. I looked through the Dell Children's sign-in sheet and there were more BSNs than ADNs.... but I think that is b/c Dell only hires BSNs? Other than that sign-in sheet, I have no idea of the number of BSN vs ADN.

Brackenridge ICU is only hiring 4, Round Rock ICU is only hiring 2. OR said about 8 (for the whole system) and Dell Children's won't know until later in the year. OR is interesting d/t the fact that they hire a group for the entire system, not by individual hospital (if I understood correctly). Overall, I felt good walking out, but the numbers obviously aren't in anyone's favor! :woot:

Yes, wear a suit. Seemed like most, if not all, of the guys and many of the ladies wore suits.

I totally agree with you! The ball is in anyone's court now lol! Yeah by the sound of the hiring manager she wants BSN only, I did not even bother walking into that line. I knew better -_-. I am very interested in the IMCU at the Brackenridge I def applied for that. Well Im just happy that there is at least 8 openings for the OR. I am excited for that. Better chance than no chance. There was a lot of med surg, thankfuly neuro/ortho, my specialty. Good Luck!! I prolly saw you today and did not even know it! I was the asian in the blue dress without sounding racist lol.

Lol! I probably saw you, but I was pretty much tunnel-visioned the whole time d/t nerves and focusing on "selling" myself to the managers. Yes, lots of med/surg compared to ICU, ER, & OR!

Good luck!

LOL I think we all were! but thank you and good luck to you too! :)

for those of you who attended the open house this past Tuesday, did the managers tell you a time frame for when they will be interviewing? The ones I met mentioned the week prior to Thanksgiving, but I just want to know if that is the consensus.

Best of luck to everyone, the competition seemed pretty fierce during my 1pm session.

Hey! Yeah a couple of them said around that time frame as well. I think I mainly remember hearing the one guy from IMCU Brack saying that the most. But overall, I think competition was fierce overall too! What did you all apply to Botoxbaby? Was there more representatives there during your time? I felt like there wasn't much for us at 3pm?

I believe the ICU manager at Brack said beginning 2nd week of November. I don't know about the rest......

One of the HR reps said that the last person who was hired for the Oct.15th cohort was hired on Oct.3rd, so it could be a long road!

Well...I applied to a lot of ED, but that was before I went to the open house so now I am hoping to be able to withdraw some of my applications and apply to other acute positions. I would love ED, but don't have any ED tech or EMT experience so they pretty much told me that I wasn't going to stand a chance. Oh well, there are other options out there. Seton is definitely THE place to work though, everyone seems to love it. UMCB had the most reps because I remember them saying they had twenty something positions they are looking to fill, hopefully I at least get an interview.

Overall, I think there were maybe at most 15 managers or HR reps from the various locations who were available during the 1pm session. There were some other admin/HR people in the brown Seton sweaters who were also available for just basic application questions. How many do you estimate were at your session?

I was expecting something A LOT larger and was hoping for something more promising, but it is what it is and I gave it my best shot!
