Hi folks:

My family is thinking about moving to L.A or San Francisco area. I have one and half year experience in Med/Sug, Can anyone tell me how much I will be getting paid if I move to those areas? Have a family, have to think about this. Thank you for your helps.

Hello!

I used to work in LA (Glendale) and now work on the Peninsula in the Bay Area. If you plan to rent an apartment or condo you are much better off as a nurse in the Bay Area. If you plan on trying to buy a house big enough for a family LA is more affordable in most areas. I am making TWICE the hourly rate I made in LA (in October 2005) and I had only 2 years experience in med/surg when I moved. Apartments cost about the same in the suburbs in both the LA and SF bay area. The hospitals I applied to in the Bay area offered me moving packages and sign on bonuses. You should look at http://craigslist.orgfor the LA and bay area to get an idea of rent/housing costs for your family.

On a personal note I love the Bay Area and plan on staying for a long time. LA is just too trafficky and smoggy for me!!

Good luck to you!!

If you want to know the pay scale at my facility pm me, I will tell all.:chuckle

Pay can vary widely, especially with a half hour to one drive but, generally ...

Pay in the Bay Area ranges from 80-88K, southern California is less at $67K in the LA area.

But, of course, a Bay Area house will cost you $150K more than a southern California house also.

Go to this list, click on the town, click on healthcare practioners and look up registered nurse pay for each town.
