Hello,
I have some questions regarding the nursing jobs and CNO registration process.
1. I am going to complete my consolidation course in a hospital in Ontario and plan to apply my first job there. Is that possible for the hospital offer me a job offer and wait me for 3-4 months before i start working, because i need to complete my CNO registration during this time (i am from Quebec so it takes time).
2. How long it take from I submit every documents they need to the time they inform me to do the jurisprudence exam?
Thank you very much

1. If you are from Quebec, CNO (see link) will need for you pay the application first. Since you're from a different province, CNO will first need to assess your qualifications.
* Some new grad here who finished BScN in Ontario can be granted Temporary license if hired by an employer and therefore can work while waiting for their NCLEX-RN exam.
2. Part of the application process is for you to take Jurisprudence. Once you paid the application fee, you can take it whenever you are ready.
3. You can definitely email CNO as well with your specific question. Expect a slow response.
QuoteRegistration Requirements1. Nursing EducationYou must demonstrate the successful completion of a nursing education program designed to prepare you for the type of nursing that you want to practise in Ontario.2. Evidence of PracticeYou must show that you have recent experience practising as a nurse. Most applicants to the College automatically meet this requirement by completing a nursing program approved by the College within the past three years.3. Registration ExaminationYou must successfully complete the registration examination approved by the College for the type of nursing you want to practise.4. Jurisprudence ExaminationYou must successfully complete either the RN/RPN Jurisprudence Examination or the NP Jurisprudence Examination.5. Proficiency in English or FrenchYou must be able to show proficiency in either English or French before you can practise nursing in Ontario.6. Citizenship, Permanent Residency or Authorization to Practise NursingYou must provide proof of your citizenship, residency status, or authorization to practise nursing in Canada before you can register as a nurse in Ontario.7. Past Offences and FindingsYou must truthfully state whether you have ever been found guilty of an offence, refused registration, had a finding related to the practice of nursing or another profession against you, or are involved in certain proceedings.8. Health and ConductYou must declare whether you suffer from any physical or mental condition or disorder that could affect your ability to practise nursing in a safe manner. The College must also be satisfied that you will practise with decency, honesty and integrity, and in accordance with the law.

Thank you for youro answers, it really helps me.
Do you know usually whether the employers (hospital) are willing to give the job offer and wait for new graduates for 1-2 months before starting working (b/c i checked that CNO registration usually take 1-2 months for Quebec students)?
Thank you!

Hello. Depending on the employer, they might wanted if you can start as soon as possible. If the employer really likes you, I think they can wait. They might say, you can come back & apply once CNO is processing your paperworks.
I find that if you have a job offer, CNO is much faster in processing your paperworks to get a Temporary license if you did not have your NCLEX yet.

Less than 24hrs if what you're waiting is just the NCLEX. I got all requirements completed before taking NCLEX.
I completed my NCLEX on Feb 27th at 5pm. I got a notification that I had a message on my CNO account around 4am on Feb 28th. I passed.
I also paid my registration right away and my name showed on the Find a Nurse after that moment.
Thankyou hypnotizer.

Hi. I don't think the weekend matters since I completed mine after office hours and got the result after midmorning the next day. (Actually, my colleague got it at the same time as well). It must be the computer that is ?working.
My other colleague who failed needed to wait for a while +++ before she got her result and explanation. But I am not saying that everyone who waits failed. (May be there is just some techinical issues.)
Thankyou hypnotizer..
