Questions about NLN... please help!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Ok, this is my 1st time on the site as a registered user, and I have a couple questions that I need some help with. I am a pre-nursing student, I have taken API and APII and am taking Micro this semester. I am wanting to know what I should expect from the NLN and what I should prepare for? I am so stressed about it, when I think of the NLN, I see myself completely bombing it, so I really need to know how to get myself ready for it. Also, is there a limit to the amount of times you can take it? What score is a "good" score? I have not had an advisor for the 3 semesters that I have been in school, so I am clueless. The school assigned me one, but he literally told me he has no clue about the nursing program so he could not help me. Please respond.. I need it!

Has three sections. Reading, science, and math. All timed an hour each. Go to the NLN website and get the book. As far as scores etc. That will depend on your school.

The verbal section has vocabulary and reading comp, the science section can be a little intimidating, a study guide is a good idea as there are many physics and electricity questions, make sure you are quick in your computations for math as you may not use a calculator. Check with your school to see what grades they accept, see if the school hosts an information session for the nursing program, that will help trememdously if they do.

Good Luck!

How many times are you allowed to take it? I am taking it for the second time in a few weeks.

My best advice is to get the practice/review book from Barnes and Noble. I did and I did great on it.

If you have not taken a chemistry you need to familiarize yourself with things like combustion, laws of thermodynamics, etc etc. It is all in the review book.

Thanks! I have the study guide from my schools book store and I have been going through all the math problems and the science part day by day. I think last time that I took it I just wasnt ready. It was after Christmas and I also have two kids at home that keep me distracted. I have taken A&P 1 and chemistry already. The math part was what hurt me the first time. I went for tutoring at my school and re-taught myself math and how to set up equations. I have a great GPA and have all the requirements for my school but they denied me b/c of the nln score and said thats how they make their decision is only on the nln score. Which stinks but oh well. The second times the charm, right?
