I see lots of posts about passing or failing with 75 questions, just curious what the stats are. I would like to think that nursing school prepares us enough that those who get 75 are mostly passing?

So, if you pass NCLEX with only 75 items, does it mean you're really good? :)

I just took it this morning...for the second time. So help me GOD if i failed AGAIN:( THis time I got 75 questions, and the last time I made it to the brutal end that is 265 and didn't pass. Today when the program disappeared after 75, I freaked out. I literally stopped breathing for a few seconds. I wanted it to come back and give me more questions so that i could PROVE myself! I had studied pleanty of other stuff that I knew! I had so so so many questions on the same topics including hyper-hypothyroidism, SIADH, and DI. Also a few meds, 2 math, and a lot of prioritizing patients. Not to mention all of the "select all that apply" questions because I had at least 15. I am pretty positive I failed. Now I am sitting at home driving myself absolutely crazy while deciding how I want to break the news to the family and friends during the holidays...telling them I failed for the second time is going to make me feel like a super huge idiot. I am seriously considering cooking up some kind of a lie! Seeing as though this test is primarily based on luck, I am hoping the luck was in my favor this Christmas because all I wanted this holiday season was to pass my boards:/

Sad in MN...

I tested on Sept 22 and failed  Retested this morning and tried the PVT and got the good pop-up as apposed to last time when I tried the PVT and went to the CC screen.. 2 days later FAIL! I really hope the pearson trick does work. For those of you just dying to know.. give it a shot! Last time it was dead on!! Good luck! I just hope the trick has not changed and that pop-up really means a PASS! Praying every chance I get!!!! :coollook: Oh and this time was WWAAYY harder, meds I have never heard of, priority out the wazzzoo, and tons of SATA!! Walked out like W-h-a-t...

i will be appearing for the nclex this tuesday and i am in a terrible state ..

i am just not sure if my preparation is enough .. i have scored 66% over all in Q bank some times my scores were too inconsistent to rely on them .. i did solve mosby's as well .. and also doing the prioritization book .. i am so worried i dont know where i stand and if my preparation is enough .. i have read a lot of threads where insipte of all the studies they havent made it ,, please guys give me some tips .. and help me before this big day ...

I did Kaplan and my Q banks were 75% and higher.. It was the Q trainer that got me, 52-69% on them. I did Saunders the first time and FAILED. This time I rolled out the $$ and I think it may have been worth every penny. There is a thread on here about good Kaplan scores. You should check it out.. GREAT luck!!

In nursing school I was one of the "slow test takers". I was generally one of the last ones to complete exams. I always took my time, and did well. We had ATIs in school and I did poorly on those because I always felt I did not have enough time to do the exams. I had an average of 54 on Kaplan's Qbank plus got a score of 48% on a free NCLEX quiz at at a university close to where I live. I was really worried.

One of my friends in NY took his NCLEX got all 265 questions and failed. Months later he retook it and took 2 and a half hours to complete the exam at 75 questions. He said he knew in his heart that he had passed, so his advice to me was to not worry about how slow I was in taking exams, so one of my game plan was to take all the time I wanted and pray that the computer would shut off at 75 questions. So his advise helped boost my confidence.

My next friend who was most likely deemed by most professors as "not likely to successfully complete nursing school" averaged 55% of Kaplan's QBank, had the worst performance in his class on the ATIs and ended up passing NCLEX on his first attempt with 140 questions. His advice to me was: even if you are doing what you deem as poorly in the QBANKS if you are consistently scoring in the same range, that's good enough. I was consistently scoring between 52 - 55% so that boosted my confidence.

I took my NCLEX in November, and took almost three hours to answer 74 questions, I wanted the computer to shut off at 75 questions. I used every NCLEX strategy there was to use, plus I prayed over most of the answers I chose before hitting the next button. The questions were getting harder. At the 75th question I said lord, I cannot do anymore questions, please let this computer shut off, as I clicked the next button I closed my eyes. A few second's later I opened my eyes and the screen was blue. I was happy, but then I started to panic_ "this is what I wanted, but did I pass". The nurses I worked with told me that the likelihood of passing at 75 questions was far greater that the likelihood of failing.

As it turned out I passed. Not only that, everyone else in my class who took the exam, passed between 85 - 140 questions. I was the only one who passed at 75 although I was a "slow test taker". Every person that I know of so far and those I have heard of from friends has passed their NCLEX when it shuts off at 75. People have been known to fail at 75, but not a lot, so be positive. For the next few hours to days as you wait for the results, do what my charge nurse told me to do: Repeat to yourself "I am the RN" and this will be your self fulfilling prophesy.

I just took the NCLEX-RN for the second time this morning. I failed on my first attempt in October with 110q. It was such a horrible feeling, but I know I have learned from it. Every day since finding out I failed I studied in preparation to pass on my second try. The NCLEX is such a mind game! I am a very nervous/anxious test taker. This morning as I went in to take my exam I just took some deep breaths, and told my self I WILL PASS...I CAN DO THIS. My test shut off after 75 questions. I am so nervous. All I have been thinking about for the past 45 days is this exam. I have a job offer that is contingent on passing, which only added to my stress! I know there is nothing I can do about it now. I did my best. I felt like I was guessing on so many of those 75 questions. I had a ton of Pharm, SATA, infection control, prioritization (who should nurse see/assess first), a few delegation questions, no math/calulation questions. I am so nervous! I have already been through the feelings of failure once and I have done so much to prepare myself and to redeem myself. After reading the previous posts, I do feel slightly better. There are many people who have passed with 75q and didn't feel too great after taking the test. This is exactly how I feel. I am so scared because I am not sure I answered enough correctly...I started to look up some answers to the questions I could remember and would just get a sick feeling in my stomach when I found out I was wrong. So, I stopped looking them up. I can't remember very many of the questions that I had and I felt like I was guessing on most of them. Anyway, just needed a place to vent. Thanks for all you have posted their experiences on here. It is helpful to read that others are going through the same thing. I guess all I can do at this point is wait and find out! :o

UGH!!!!!

75 questions and I feel like I failed. I spiked my coffee with Bailey's to get rid of the pukey anxiety, and it's not helping! Somebody get me some midazolam!!!!

I graduated 2 weeks ago, and wanted to get this over with as quickly as possible. I'm an above average test taker, and used the ATI prep my university provided. I scored very well on all of their predictors putting my chances of passing on the first try @ 99%. My GPA in nursing school was a 3.9.

However, there was SO. MUCH. RANDOM. CRAP. on the exam. Meds I've never heard of, random diseases I've never heard of, and diagnostic tests I've never heard of. And even on the stuff that should have been easy like diabetes, the choices were so ****** up!!!!

I could have studied for 3 more months, and I doubt it would have improved my performance on the test.

I either bombed it so seriously that I got shut off @ 75 questions or passed. I mean, why would the test stop you if there are 190 more questions possible? Right??? RIGHT???

But according to the poll @ the beginning of the thread, 17% still fail with 75 questions. Sure hope that statistics are on my side. I'll check back in to let you know in 2 days!

Damn you, Pearson Vue! Tell me now! Tell me now!!!

ugh. Not looking forward to the next 48 hours.........

:cry:Hi,I fail my test againg this is my 4 time ,practice, practice and practice different book in different programs but I don`t pass please help me. Maaaago1

75 questions, 55 minutes, first time.

Hello,

Thank you all for your comments it has really helped me while I was waiting for my results. This was my third time taking the NCLEX and I passed at 75 questions! The first time I got 75 questions, and the second I got 265. I went in there calm and confident that I will walk out of there as an RN. I prayed and ask the lord to let me pass at 75 questions and I did. You just have to walk in there believing and having faith that you will pass. I walked out of there speaking that I had passed and thinking that it was too easy. It had me kind of worried because I started to think that I got to many low level questions. They asked my a lot of drug questions, priority questions, and repeated questions. I don't know if it seemed easy because this was my third time taking it but I am very blessed that I have passed and I can official say I am a RN! I did the Kaplan review and it help me out a lot. Good luck to everyone who is about to take NCLEX...Just believe in yourself and have FAITH! and Congrat's to everyone who have passed!

I just took the NCLEX-RN yesterday 27JAN10. I scored very well on my school's ATI predictor test (99% probability of passing NCLEX on first try). Nevertheless, the entire time I felt like I was guessing while taking the test. I kept seeing the same type of questions with similar options over and over again, and when I got to the 75th question, I was REALLY hoping it would give me more, because I felt like I was doing so poorly.

It didn't. It stopped at 75, and I felt like I wanted to throw up. I was CONVINCED I failed---I didn't see how I could possibly pass.

I didn't sleep much last night, but I just checked my state board's website and I PASSED!

Apparently a lot of my friends felt like they failed too when it shut off at 75 questions. Good luck to all of you who are about to take it or just took it!

StudyinginCT--That's EXACTLY how I felt! At least you could take it a month before me. I graduated Dec 18 and the soonest I could take it was 27JAN and most of my classmates can't take it till the beginning of Feb!

Congrats on passing! (since I'm sure you did)
