hi everyone! ide like to ask some questions to those who are familiar with the CES application. i have a friend who already passed the NCLEX. he passed the NM nclex exam and currently just waiting for the lifting of retrogression. since then, we both planned to take up the NM because we both have relatives there.
last year he applied for the nclex and luckily before the new rule regarding the CES, he has already finished the application. unfortunately for me this is the only time that ill be preparing my requirements. the fingerprint was sent to me last year but for some reasons i have done nothing yet.
to those who applied for the CES which do you preffer? CGFNS, IERF or ERES?
what are the papers that i have to send to those CES? different CES different requirements?
what is the first step for me? submit requirement and fees to the BON or CES first?
my friend who passed the NM nclex doesnt have any idea on how CES works thats why i decided to ask it here.
thanks! please help me lessen my anxiety:cry::wink2: i really regret that i didnt applied for it before the new rule came.
Thanks

All the papers required for CES are outlined on CGFNS.org.
If you are planning to ever endorse your license to another state, you may as well use CGFNS to get the CES which is often required (even though CGFNS are slow and expensive).

I handled the CES for my wife from Philippines.
We used CGNFS for CES (Advice from this forum) and it was a fairly easy process.
The website is easy to use, and makes the CES a easy process.
Our CES took about a month, I gave her school in Philippines extra money so they could send her Transcript via express mail to CGNFS.

Would recommend full course by course with CES CGFNS as this an be used for other states but also if you want to do any further study is usually required by the university

Do not do one thing with the actual application for the NM BON until the CES report is complete. They are actually returning applications now if the CES does not arrive there very soon after the application does or just before. They do not want to have any extra files just lying around.
The CES report can take about four months to get completed. CES is accepted by all states that require a credentials eval; the others are not.
You are looking at probably close to seven years before a chance at a green card, there are many in front of you already waiting and a limited number of green cards that are issued yearly. And it also goes by country of birth as well.
Best of luck to you. And I would seriously consider another country as well to gain experience if you are not already employed as a paid RN where you are now.
thanks ghill, redranger, and ofcourse the ever helpful silverdragon and suzzane!!
ive the idea already on what to do first. i really felt bad when i found out that i have to use the CES for my application and not only that!! i need to have a certificate from ielts before i can send it to CGFNS! WOW.. the anxiety is never ending.. i wish i applied it early last year! my friend is so lucky that he already passed the NCLEX.
and like what suzzane said he can practice somewhere else first while waiting for the 7 years. suzzane ide like to ask if there is an expiration of liscence in NM? i mean if ever i passed the exam and like what you said it will take 7 years before i can work there is the liscence still valid after 7 years without working in NM?
how about the validity of ielts?
and i read this
5. The completed “Request for Validation of
Registration/License” form from initial licensing agency
where you have held a registration/license/certification
as a professional in your field; or, in cases where your
diploma authorizes legal practice, this same form mailed to
CGFNS from the institution that issued your diploma.
Note: Some licensing/registration authorities may charge a
fee for verifying your license(s)/registration(s). You are
responsible for any outside additional fees associated with
processing your Credentials Evaluation Service application.
since NM is still not requiring local board what will i write on the application?
thanks guys!!
The majority of licenses in the US are only valid for two years and then need to be renewed. Any english exam is only valid for two years as well. After one has passed the NCLEX and the English exams, they can then apply for an obtain a Visa Screen Certificate. Once they have this, then the English is valid until this expires. The VSC is valid for five years and then it needs to be renewed.
A large number of states that did not require the local license in the past are now requiring it. Your other issue is that you are not going to be able to go to any other country if you do not possess a local license as that is a requirement for all of the others.
I would check directly with NM to see if they are requiring the local license now or not. Things have been changing rather rapidly in quite a few states. If they do not need it, then you would place N/A in that field.

hi suzanne! I need your help.. I have been very stressed with the changes made by the State of Vermont regarding their requirements.I applied for NCLEX in jan of 2008,3months after I received a letter, asking me to fill out a new application form and hoping that by june or july of the same year i'll be getting my eligibility.unluckily I received a letter asking me to get a CES report. As per my relatives who lives in Florida I'd rather take the CGFNS exams inpreparation for the NCLEX . As per Vermont, they will hold my application up until I received the result of my exam. Thank God I passed the exam and I'll be taking up IELTS this March to complete my certification. However, Vermont is still asking for the CES report of my education, telling me to let CGFNS post my file on their website. When I asked CGFNS they were asking me to pay $328 for my CES.
I have been bothered by this matter since 2008 of July. I don't know what I should do to get my application for licensure get processed as fast as it can be. I thought I can already use my certification for my credentials review.. I'm having second thoughts now of canceling my application in Vermont and have a new one for California instead of paying $328 for CES. Good thing that the State of Vermont was very accommodating. Below were the messages made by Sandy Swenson.
"If you've gone through the CGFNS certificate program they would have completed a CES report of your education. Please ask them to post your CES report to the Vermont site and we will print the forms and match them to your file.
AS per CGFNS:
Thank you for your inquiry. Please be advised our records indicate your service is for the Certification Program which is for our exam. If you wish to have your credentials evaluation for Vermont State of Nursing, you need to apply for CES Healthcare Profession and Science Report. The charge for this service is $328.
haay...help please.. i'm so confused!!! Please tell me what to do.. thank you very much.. ]
The CGFNS exam will not help you in any way prepare for the NCLEX exam, they are completely different in every way possible. Sorry, but your relatives are actually giving you very poor advice. That exam is only offered a couple of times per year and then you wait 6 weeks to get the results, and then what if you do not pass it? It still is not going to get you approval to sit or the NCLEX exam any quicker.
It usually takes about four months to get the CES completed, sometimes in can be quicker and then a month to get approval to sit for the NCLEX exam. Doing what your cousins are recommending and it is gong to be the end of the year before you can sit for the NCLEX exam.
Taking the CGFNS exam is not a credentials evaluation. And it is not true that it is the same or can be considered as the same. If the state is not asking for the CGFNS exam, then they are not going to be able to use it. The CGFNS exam requirements are that only a form is completed by your school with the basic hours in each subject, this is not a credentials eval.
Not sure what your hurry is to test as soon as you can, we do not have any visas available. You are going to be looking at years. And doing it your way is going to cost you much extra money and time.
CGFNS is not going to do an evaluation of what you submitted to them without being paid the fee for it. Not sure why you did the CGFNS exam, it will not help in any way and is only required in 4 states out of the entire US.
You just wasted more money with going that route as well.
And the reason that they asked for the CES is that they were having issues with your transcripts; other than for that reason, they would not ask for the CES.
CA is not going to be quick, they do their own credentials eval. And then you need to be aware that if you are planning to endorse to Florida from another state, they will not permit it unless you have worked here for two years. Guess that your relatives did not inform you of this rule. And VT has instituted new requirements if you go for licensure in CA, whch will not issue a license witout a SSN#, and want to then go for licensure in VT.
Best to do what VT is actually asking for in the first place instead of trying all of these other things that are just costing you more money. Passing of the CGFNS exam does nothing to help you get a license for the US.
thank you very much for your immediate reply suzanne.. your answers helped me alot!!! whew.. thank you.. thank you..thank you..:nmbrn:
