Question about USAF uniform shoes / pumps

Specialties Government

Published

Hi,

I'm trying to purchase the proper shoes (oxfords and pumps) for AF dress uniforms. I've found a few that seem to be within the regulations. I have to say oxfords are not the most feminine or flattering shoes. The pumps are also a little 80's - but at least a little more feminine lol. Does anyone have any tips of what to buy? Any particular brands or websites to find these shoes? Do I buy the high-gloss / patent or matte "finish"? I was thinking of getting the pumps in a matte and the oxfords in patent/ glossy. Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

would you mind putting up a link of where to find the uniform info and what you need? i think i remember seeing it somewhere in the distant past but can't remember where. if you happen to have the link handy that would be very helpful. thanks!

of course!

http://www.au.af.mil/au/holmcenter/ots/documents/cotuniformchecklist.pdf (this is the list of uniform items we need - it came from the following website which also has some great information: http://www.au.af.mil/au/holmcenter/ots/cot-rcot/additionalinfo.asp )

http://www.afoats.af.mil/ots/documents/afi36-2903.pdf (this tells you every detail of how to wear your uniform. it's a large document - use your "find" search bar to locate specific sections like "shoes" )

http://www.au.af.mil/au/holmcenter/ots/cot-rcot/commissionedofficertraining.asp (this is just the general cot / ots website - pretty useful!)

i hope this helps :)

Suggestion: Buy this book to help with all your uniform questions. It is available on base in the uniform shop or online.

http://www.uniformguide.com/airforce.htm It is worth every dime.

is it me or is it a little nauseating to see all that information?? are we just supposed to read all that and show up knowing what the heck we're doing?? that's intimidating. thanks for posting the links!

also, do we buy everything listed in that 162 page pdf that pertains to us? just wondering in particular about the several black shoes that are listed (pumps, slip ons, and low quarters) since they are Xed off for a lot of the same uniforms- wasn't sure if we buy everything or not. it made sense to buy the multiple different uniforms...

I'm not sure actually - on the initial checklist - the first link I pasted - it just specifies that women need to buy pumps and low quarters - it doesn't list dress boots because I was wondering the same thing. Maybe we should check with our recruiters lol. I can't imagine needing pumps - oxfords - dress boots - combat boots - and slip ons - as well as sneakers lol. Our whole suitcases will be full of just shoes!

For the purposes of COT I would make sure to buy the patent leather oxfords. You'll quickly learn that everything needs to be standardized. This translates into EVERYONE wearing the same shoes--male and female. In my class of 300 people, women were not allowed to wear skirts or pumps. Of course, when you graduate COT and get to your base you can wear any combo as long as it is in regulation.

As for the pumps, I own matte finish leather pumps that I bought at a dept store. Per wtbcrna's post, buy the book he suggested. I still refer to it to this day.

In my COT class (10-01), we were told blues do not have to be standardized - so it's going to depend on your class. You will, however, need the low quarters, and you will also need pumps to wear with your mess dress at a minimum.

I quite often wore pumps with my blues - as I said, we didn't have to be quite that standardized.

There is no such thing as "dress boots", so don't worry about that.

Oh yeah, forgot about the mess dress. My class was during summer surge and we had a dining in wearing ABUs. I never even bought the mess dress (and still don't own it to this day!) If you are in a small class you will need pumps...carry on!

There's five hundred bucks I won't get back...LOL...I'll admit, though, LOVED wearing that thing...

kind of random but for COT why does one rank have to be pin on? wouldn't it be easier for everything to have its own sewn on rank and be done with it or is the pin on one for something specific?
