Question about USAF uniform shoes / pumps

Published

Hi,

I'm trying to purchase the proper shoes (oxfords and pumps) for AF dress uniforms. I've found a few that seem to be within the regulations. I have to say oxfords are not the most feminine or flattering shoes. The pumps are also a little 80's - but at least a little more feminine lol. Does anyone have any tips of what to buy? Any particular brands or websites to find these shoes? Do I buy the high-gloss / patent or matte "finish"? I was thinking of getting the pumps in a matte and the oxfords in patent/ glossy. Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It doesn't. I have no idea why it says that because there's no reason for it. All the rank I had was sewn on (and I assure you I wasn't the only one there with it) and it wasn't an issue. No one could ever explain why it said that, either.

does anyone know a place to buy the oxfords? i found an acceptable pair of pumps but am having trouble finding the other kind of shoes.

also, since i'll be going to NTP do i just wait to arrange moving my belongings until i get to my final duty station? and if so am i supposed to pack everything i'll need for NTP when i go to COT?? i live in Georgia so maybe i'll have time to make it back and pack some things but i was curious what the logistics of the move would be and i assume i won't be seeing my dogs for a good long while? where do you live during NTP? does this all get explained somewhere along the way or am i on my own here? (my dad is prior navy and thinks it's funny to see me stress over all this but in my opinion these are valid concerns! haha)

Hi,

I got my oxfords at an AFB nearby. There is a website on the box which may be helpful. Try www.capps-shoe.com I checked it out and there are a few different styles / prices. The pair I bought by this brand ran pretty narrow and I would reccommend buying a wide width even if you are typically a regular width. I was advised to buy the "high gloss" finish, lol I think I could style my hair using my shoe as a mirror!

Also, for what it's worth, and I hope he's right ;) , my recruiter told me that there should be a few days in between COT and NTP to travel. He advised me to fly home from COT then drive to NTP so I woldn't be without a car for 10 weeks. I hope he really is right! I hear you on missing your dogs :(!

Anyway, I hope this website works out for you! Also, are you having any luck with sage green boots? I tried the PX and they only carried men's sizes. Then I tried www.AAFES.com and they won't ship them for about two weeks - ugg... I'm getting so anxious!

thanks for the website! did you already commission- is that how you could get onto a base? i haven't looked into boots or other things we'll need. i'm not going until march as far as i know (hopefully i'll get the final word wednesday) so i haven't looked for everything yet- i just wanted to get a jump on the shoes, at least, if i could. i thought it might ease the stress a little if i could get a few things here and there. we'll see how that works...

Don't believe what your recruiter tells you - everyone I encountered at COT who was going to NTP had the same number of travel days to report to NTP that I had to get to my base...all the Lackland NTP folks had three days to get from Maxwell to Lackland, just like I did, even though their NTP class doesn't start until January 6. Any more days would have been chargeable leave - and you'll only have two and a half days' leave on the books when you graduate from COT anyway. Unless you live in Atlanta, that's not really enough time to get from Maxwell, to home, and to NTP. The folks going to Travis for NTP got five days to get from Alabama to California - and if you think that's not enough time, ask my friend, a JAG, who got only eight days to get from Alabama to Alaska in the dead of winter.

If you want your car in a timely manner, I'd advise you to drive to Alabama (you get more money anyway) and then drive to COT, or expect to pay out of your own pocket to have your car shipped (which is about four hundred bucks - what we're paying to have our third car shipped to Texas).

Mobro I have the same dilema with the dog. If I drive to Maxwell and end up in Virginia and have my car with me the whole time, how do I get my dog to Virginia after COT? He's too big to fly in main cabin in one of those under the seat carriers, and I think it might kill the nervous thing if i put him in cargo! lol. I figure I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

Thanks pooh for the car thoughts, it's been a question the recruiter really didn't answer well enough for me. Besides, if I have my car, I can take more stuff when I move to first station from COT.

Exactly. Everyone was storing all kinds of crap in their car. It was great - free, secure storage!
