Surgical first assistants can be RNs, Physician's assistants, operating room techicians, for some examples.
If you want to be an RN and a surgical first-assist, certainly make the move to go to a 4 year university RN program, and then work toward specializing in surgery, and go from there.
If you are not interesting in nursing itself, you could always look into becoming a PA or even a doctor. You have a lot of time to decide. Try taking your basic classes, and some pre-nursing/pre-med classes and see what you like. Also won't hurt to shadow or interview medical professionals if possible, a variety of them. Doctors and nurses.
Good luck.
