Question about Scrubs

I know this is probably a really silly question, but I just want to be sure. I just got a job in a pediatric office. Am I supposed to wear my scrubs there or change into them once I get there? Or does it not matter? Please let me know! It's my first job and I'm really nervous. :imbar

I know when I lived in the States, everyone wore their scrubs to work. As far as I'm concerned, that potentially brings infection into your work area - and then you carry whatever you pick up home, too. I think it's best to change at work and change back into street clothes when heading home.

I wear scrubs on the NICU I work in, but they're provided for us, so we change there.

To be safe, I would address that question to your workplace/unit. Policies vary from hospital to hospital. For example, some NICU's (like mine) allow us to come in dressed from home. Others do not.

Congratulations on the job and much luck to you!! :yeah:

Depending on the type of office you work in infection control issues may differ. If you work in a specialty pediatric office where you will be in direct contact with immunocompromised patients constantly I would change at the office. If it is a general office then wearing your scrubs to work is not such an issue, these children come from out in the public just as you do. At the end of the day it is another story. I personally take my scrubs off as soon as i get home and straight to the laundry with them because of the MRSA and such. I would ask what the other nurses do and follow their lead.

If you are working in a general peds office most likely just wear your scrubs to work. Like the other poster said, if you are in a sensitive area then check with them and see what their guidelines are. I worked in a peds office for a few years and we all just came to work in our scrubs... haha sometimes you need a spare pair cause you never know with those kiddos!! I have been peed on, vomitted on, bled on...

i'm not in an office type setting or anything. But it's more professional if you come to work in your scrubs.

good luck at your job!
