Question about Saunders

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hi everyone! This is my first time posting but I have to say I feel everyone's pain who hasn't passed NCLEX yet. I'm still workin on it!

I just bought a Saunders Q&A book the other day and I was wondering if that was the one that was recommended from the posts I've read. The book store did have another Saunders book so I was a little confused as to which one to buy. I think it was more of a review type book, but I can't remember.

I'm worried the review books may not be enough for me since I've been struggling on this exam, so I was wondering if anyone could recommend a review course either in a classroom or online that's been helpful. I took one already in the summer and I feel it didnt prepare me enough. Any advice would be greatly apprecated! Thanks!

I purchased the Sauders review book and I did some reading in the book but I mostly did the CD questions and it was very helpful I took my test (Mon.)9-13-05 and the computer shut off at 85 questions I got my results (Wed.)9-15-05 and I passed!!

Lippincott was really good! Their rationales were excellent and thorough. Lippincott can be frustrating becuase I didn't score high on their exams but I learned a heck of a lot!!!!!

I used Saunders Q&A only. I really liked it too.

I too think you should pull from different resources.

Good luck! oh, I only used the Kaplan Trainer. The book confused the heck out of me!

HELLO

I HAVE SAUNDER COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW FOR NCLEX EXAM. I TRAINED OUTSIDE THE US IN AFRICA. DO I NEED ANY OTHER BOOK(S) . DO HAVE ANY CD ROM YOU COULD RECOMMEND :nurse: :nurse: :nurse:

Saunder's Comprehensive Review does not need to be used by an American-trained nurse for the reading part, but for the CD. The review is excellent just for that, if there is something that you do not understand, then it is there as your resource. The CD should be used, adn all rationales reviewed as well.

For the foreign-trained nurse, the book shiould be treated like a bible. Any foreign nurse that I have coached, has used this book, and has passed the exam the first time. And most did not even have English as their primary language. So, if they can pass with just this book, an American-trained nurse, should be able to do the same. I still have a 100% pass rate with my method of teaching. Do not know anyone else that can say the same thing.

I am only studying from saunders comprehensive review and Kaplan question trainer cd.. do you think that this is sufficient materials to prep for the nclex? I am consistently doing 100-150 questions a day from the saunders CD.. but I feel like I should be using other sources..

Also, I am in the ncsbn course from learningtext.com but I am doing horrible in it.. Is it just me? I feel like their questions are sort of weird...but if they are the makers of the nclex shouldn't I be concentrating on their materials more than anything? My main focus right now is just saunders and kaplan cd... What do you thinK?

You should be doing 100 questions only per day, adn I suggest that you use the Saunders CD for this. If you are a US nursing grad, then the review book should be just for that, if you need to look up a topic. The rationales behind each and every answer, both the correct choice, as well as the incorrect choice, are extremely important. Saunders does the best job of this, way above the others.

There is a CD-ROM that comes with the Saunder's book, that is all that you should need. Do you have the book for the RN exam? And which edition?

I suggest that you briefly go thru the book and review anything that looks unfamiliar to you to begin with.

Which country are you from? As training differs between countries.

I do not agree that you need multiple books to study from...................

I have not run across one error in the Saunders' books, but I have found them in the others.

great news!

Im pretty sure alot of us here in this forum were foreign-trained nurse and ready to challenge the nclex exam.......

Suzanne4..... do you mean as a foreign-trained nurse must first read cover to cover from the saunder's comprehensive review book and do the 100 questions afterwards or practice 100 questions first and look up in the book for our weakness area?

Thanks :)

:balloons: CONGRATULATIONS :balloons:

How much and what you will review from the book will depend on where you trained, as well as when you trained. If you are a recent graduate, then most of the information should be fairly familiar to you. If you graduated ten years ago and have only worked in one area, then a review of the book would be in order for you. Also, depends on the responsibilities that you had where you trained and were working............in the US, the nurse actually functions similarly to a physician in many other countries. Example, a full assessment is done every shift by the nurse, it is the nurse's responsibility, and not left for the physician to do. Which means assessing breath sounds and heart tones, etc.

So, it will be up to you as to what you will need. Try doing the questions, and if you are having issues with them, then go to the book. Only you will be able to tell what you will need, but the Comprehensive Review Book should give you all of the information that you will need, in addition to my articles.

Well that's your opinion but I feel that ppl should use other sources and not stick to one source. I'm very glad I pulled from different sources. I also think which source you choose is a personal choice. I didn't like the style of Saunders comprehensive review book. The words were small and didn't like the lay out. The comprehensive book I ended up using, I liked the way it was set up! I wish I had found it in nursing school. I did like Saunders Q&A book/cd.

Errors will happen, not everyone is perfect.

Tiffany

The book is for review only, the best part is their review questions with the CD. That is what most should concentrate on, not the book, unless they trained out of the country.

I have prepared hundreds of nurses for the exam, and have found thru the experience what works the best for the majority.
