Question re: CNA and LVN dual licensure

Hello!

Background: Completed a CNA/HHA program back in 2009-- passed my state cert exam. I let it expire in 2012 since I was then licensed as a Vocational Nurse (in 2010).

I'm currently applying to RN programs around California. One of the colleges require that I be currently certified as a CNA. I was then told by the admission person that my LVN license didn't count and that I need to challenge the CNA exam again. Does that sound right to you? I thought because I am a LVN that I was no longer able to hold that certification anymore?

I found this: http://www.rn.ca.gov/pdfs/regulations/npr-i-02.pdf . But I can't seem to find something more recent. I want to send them proof that it's unnecessary for me to go back and challenge the exam. I'm hoping the director will give me a pass on this requirement. Any advice?

Thanks so much!

Your LVN lic. More Than qualifies you.... My opinion

I think that person is probably confused perhaps and I would ask someone in charge of the RN program!

It probably won't help to argue with their requirements as the requirement did not originate with the BRN.

It's very unusual to say the least. Is it a CNA bridge to RN program? Make sure it is accredited and also check on the CA BRN website to see if it is an approved program. Best wishes.
