Hello Everyone, I need your assistance here...
I took human anatomy and human physiology at Cal State Bakersfield
back in 2007. I have finished a degree in the sciences at Fresno State and after
working for a couple of years I decided to apply to a few nursing
programs. One of them happens to be College of the Sequoias (COS) in
Visalia. I had an issue there because the anatomy class transfers
into 3 semester units and they require 4 semester units in all the
sciences pre-reqs. I took human Anatomy at CSU Bakersfield, which was 5 quarter units and transfers into 3 semester units. Because of this, they want me
to retake the whole human anatomy course for the 4 units, which
stresses me out because I took this class already and got an "A". Same lecture, same lab, same everything, just a unit short.
What stresses me out is that according to www.assist.org the class from CSUB is transferable and has an agreement with COS that will count, yet the COS Nursing counselor tells me I have to retake the class. Is there any place where I can explain my situation? How about the State of California Nursing Board? I dont know, I am just thinking there has to be a way around this.
I hope to hear from you soon.
Thanks,
Eddie

STrange your class was only 3 units. I took A&P freshmen level, class was 3 units lab was 1 for 4 total. I also took separate Anatomy and physiology at 200 level which also included labs each at 4 units, so I have 12 units total which I think is required for my BSN program. Since you got an A the first time, just take it again as a refresher.
I think the college or Uni that you are applying for has final say, I doubt the nursing board has anything to do with it and would be a useless endeavor to contact them.

I'm sorry.
I looked up your assist website, it says college of the sequoias credits transfer to Cal Bakersfield but nothing about credits transfering from Cal Bakersfield.
I also looked up the Cal Bakersfield catalogue from 2007, it says pretty clearly that the Anatomy class is 3 hours lecture, 6 of lab. I don't think there is any way around taking another credit.
I DO understand the frustration. I went to a college that had trimesters instead of semesters. So all of my transfer credits are worth 2/3 of a credit.

Check the articulation agreements between the schools. Retaking a class isn't always necessary. Go to the registrars office and see the person who evaluates transcripts. (Bring copies of the syllabi and show them that it is all the same.) The registrar ultimately makes the decisions about transfer credits.

Have you considered taking a test to get out of taking the class all together? Since you made an A the first time and you're that adamant about not taking the class again you might want to consider it. Talk with someone like your academic advisor about testing at the beginning so you can just get your credits and move on to a class that you haven't taken. Every school doesn't allow this, but it's worth a shot. Good Luck :-)
