Hi All
I am an indian student doing my LPN at a community college in Nebraska. I am about to finish my LPN in Nov. A recent info about NCLEX-PN exam appearance eligibility has made me confused. My school officials recently informed me that to appear the NCLEX-PN i will have to go to OPT, i cannt appear that in my present F1 visa status. Is it true? they said its a new rule, but it looks like a weird rule (actually they are also not very sure themself about what they are saying). i dont want to go to OPT now just in order to appear the NCLEX-PN, I wanna get my RN then think about OPT. moreover, the international advisor also says that if I get my OPT after LPN i wont be able to get OPT again after RN. if thats true, i will loose the chance to do my OPT after RN if I have to apply OPT now just for appearing the NCLEX-PN. can anyone please inform what actually this "new" rule is?
many thanks in advance..
guys i talked with the Nebraska HHS and school officials and this is what they say:
they say that a new rule in in Nebraska(NE) requires the international students have to be in OPT first in order to appear the LPN board exam (they cannt appear the exam in F1 student visa anymore).. they also say that once i apply for OPT after LPN i cannt apply for OPT again after completion of RN. so that means that i will loose my opportunity to do OPT, if i go to OPT just after LPN only in order to appear the board exam. I dont want to do that bcoz my plan was to do OPT after i complete my RN.
as a solution to my problem: they say that according to the new rule in NE, i dont have to appear LPN board to get admission to the RN. so i just need not to appear the exam now, so dont have to worry about going to OPT also. and i can do the OPT after RN. but it looks fine if i am gonna do RN in NE itself.. but i may have to move to Texas next year with my hubby, in that case what happens? texas schools wont let me apply for RN without the LPN license.. !!!
now what do i do..?
this looks like a stupid new rule in NE harassing the helpless international students..

If you used OPT as a LPN and do your RN training then you can still apply for OPT as RN is a higher level than LPN. That is my understanding on OPT and how to use it

Can you not find another international advisor from another school that you can discuss this with. I will admit I haven't heard of this before and we do have a few International students posting
