Question about old credits transferring

Published

Hi

I have my degree in ECE, got it back in '93, so I have the basic english courses, intro to psych and human growth and dev. I took A&P 1 and 2 last year...so I 'thought' I had a pretty good foundation to apply for the ADN program...now I'm hearing that my Chemistry class from highschool might not even count b/c it was over 10 years ago...so what about my college courses?? Will I be stuck starting from scratch?

Either way I'm going to nursing school... but I'm wondering if it would be less work to go for an LPN program just to get my feet wet so to speak, then worry about the RN later.

Any advice???

Thanks!

~Amy

Depends on the college. Both of the colleges I checked out have no expiration on credits, though one of them stated that if the credits were in courses in which the technology changes frequently (I'd guess computers, perhaps some business/legal courses?) then the expiration was 7 years.

Do you know of any way to check if your credits will transfer? Is there a website or anything. Checking with each school is such a tedious task. UGH

Thanks for the replies.

Unfortunately It looks like it all depends on the school.

This road keeps getting longer and longer!

It only seems long when you are talking about it and thinking about it rather then taking classes and progressing toward your goals. While you are actually following a plan, time goes by pretty fast.

I would say hold out for the RN! It took me awhile to get into nursing school and I did get into some LPN programs sooner but I held out and was forced to retake some of those classes over b/c of expiration or grades. It all depends on the school and the type of program you are trying to get into. Research all the programs in and around your area. It will be really frustrating at times b/c I found that every school was different. Good luck in whatever you decide :)
