question about nursing school: practicing on each other

Published

ive heard you have to practice sticking each other.

but are there any times when you have to disrobe to have someone practice a procedure on you? if, so what?

i remember in the intro to nursing pre-req i took, the lab lady introduced herself and the mannequin that students use to practice inserting catheters on. like i'm sure we wouldnt practice that on each other or would we???

btw, if i'm way off on this, dont be too harsh on me. i am not in the program yet and wouldnt ask if i already knew.

Back in 1992 we drew blood on each other, but now it is too much of a liability. We can't even inject saline. We only do assessments on each other.

All non invasive things like BP, P, oral temp, bathing(arms, legs, neck), assessment, apical pulse stuff like that we practiced on one another but for needle sticks we practice on lab supplies, they have some really cool things to practice inserting IV's now I thought. Maniqane arms that you can run colored water through and they feel kind of close to a person.
