I agree with the above, London is a great city. My child had surgery at one of the teaching hospitals in London and it was very good experience. I also think that the Universities are excellent. My father graduated from Western business school a long time ago and I am hoping that one of my kids will go there, if all goes well.

Good luck to you.

Linzz, my son had surgery at CHWO too! (20+ years ago, but still...) One of my best friends is a former PCCU nurse from there who lives in Alberta now.

Small world isn't it! I hear there is snow in Alberta, is this true?

Oh yes. It started last Wednesday and so far today is the first day that we haven't had at least a few flurries. Yesterday we had squalls of really heavy visibility-near-nil snow and wind... seven of them in four hours. Right now it's only -2, so we may still have a little bit of fall left before it's really winter.

Oops, spoke too soon. It's been snowing for about 20 minutes.

Saw that there was snow on the west side, wet and windy here on the east side. Looking at forecast earlier on CBC and was talking about temp -7 on the east coast and by Saturday expecting +21, what a difference in less than a week if that is what happens

I am hoping that some new grads can answer this: Are all new grads in Ontario not being given at least six to seven months of full time work that is funded by HFO. I was under the impression that the provincial government was ensuring that all new grads would be given a position or is this not really the way it works?

Any input would be appreciated.

All New Grad positions have to be obtained through the HFO web portal and are guaranteed Full Time for 6 months, the tricky part is whether the employer will offer the New Grad a Full time position at the end of the 6 months. Best case scenario, the New Grad is hired for the 6 months (HFO) and offered a Full Time position after. However, the employer might ask the person to wait and see for positions to open at the end of the New Grad placement so that the new grad can apply. My hospital is non-unionized and I think there is people that are hired Part Time but there are enough shift vacancies that the person can work close to a full time shift line. It all depends. The problem is that some hospitals are closing their new grad initiatives as they dont see any value in a New Grad going there when they cannot offer him/her a job at the end of the New Grad.

Thank you for your answer, malenurse 82. I was wondering why all the hospitals weren't just taking the new grads even for the 6 or 7 months. It is terrible to let a nurse go after the new grad initiative ends but it still gives one some nursing experience.

I am asking this because I was offered a spot in the RPN to RN bridge and had to turn it down for many reasons but a lot of them financial as I don't qualify for loans as my spouse makes a fairly decent living, however you know how the saying, too rich to be poor and too poor to be rich.

Anyways, it sounds like you have a done well at your hospital, and your hospital sounds like they are doing a reasonable job managing.

Best of luck to you.

Another possibility that occurred to me is that government funding for the new grad initiative may be curtailed leaving fewer spots for grads to access. It's sure happening here.

That is exactly what is going on. Our premier has made lots of promises to nurses that he didn't keep.
