I like the idea of the Livescribe Pen. I am curious to know how, if in anyway, people have put it to use when their instructors use Power Point presentations and Power Point handouts.
Thank you in advance!

I just got my Livescribe pen and plan to start using it when school starts shortly. I hope I find it as useful as others have reported.

It's a pen that has a recorder built into it. You write on special paper, and later if say, you forgot what the techer said about Cells you tap that part of your notes, and it replays the exact audio that was recorded at the time you wrote the note. I've never had one but I plan on buying one soon!
Sounds magical!

For $200 and $5 a notebook, it better be magical.

I was all gung ho about buying one of these....but I dunno. I've never had problems before with reading and understanding my notes. We're using a lot of Pp and I prefer making notes on the printouts....which will make the pen useless. If I have a question about something, I'm not shy about firing off "Okay I really don't understand this part" emails to my instructors.
That much money for something that I could potentially lose, or not even benefit from....I decided to wait on it. I'm going to buy a digital recorder. I'll see how well my first clinical term goes san magic pen. The iTouch will be enough technology for me, and at least I KNOW that will be useful!
A few places have some sales for the pen, though. Not huge savings, but every buck counts! :)
I've been using my iPhone to record and writing notes on pp.
I inform my profs that I'm using it to record. Some profs don't realize what I'm doing with my phone out on the table.
It is always best to ask permission to record instructors although one lady told me she just put her recorder out on her desk and the instructor didn't seem to notice it.

My ... I went back and forth on buying one of these pens, as they are $200 and yes the notebooks are $5 each.
While it may sound semi-stupid I want to use it on clinicals. I watch Nurse Jackie and I know it's not necessarily a true to life show, but on one episode the new graduate that is following Jackie around was told to do something and when she did it had a bad outcome. Jackie then tells her, I never told you to do that, and the graduate (Zoe) says yes you did, I wrote it down. Jackie tears out the page when Zoe is not looking. Yikes! I have worked with shady people before and it would be really nice to be able to provide proof of innocence.
HOW NICE WOULD IT BE TO HAVE IT WRITTEN AND RECORDED IN THAT NURSES VOICE!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) Talk about a great way to CYA!
Now just wondering if it would be frowned upon because of confidentiality rules...
I also think it will be great for math, since the notes you take end up on your computer exactly how you wrote them.

has anyone who has used one of these pens find that was helpful?

I find mine most helpful. It works very well, and was worth the $, IMO.
