Question For Male Nurses Concerning The Job Environment

Published

Are male nurses having the same problems as their female counterparts finding jobs out there in this crappy job climate? I graduate in May 2011, just wanna gauge if there is any difference. Thank you.

Im guessing it depends on what kind of nursing you do.... I applied for 3 jobs, got called back for 3 jobs to interview and got offered 2 jobs last week and have a second interview for the other job on tuesday. They have not retracted the offers, which are official and in writing, and I have 5 business days to respond. One offer is less and one offer is more than my current job.... From the time of application to the time of contact from the hospitals were all under 36 hours.....

May 2011 is a long way off; hard to say. Here in AZ there is some job movement again; but it is still tough out there. Keep your head down, study hard, volunteer, take extra training (ACLS, etc); do all the stuff you can to make yourself a more attractive job candidate.

To answer your question, it's extremely unlikely that being a guy is going to give you a leg up.

I am new grad RN, middle aged, in Indiana and I have placed over 95 apps in 2.5 months and have had 2 interviews. Second interview, I was offered the job on the spot. I think it can be a very tough market in many areas whether you are male or female.

T

simply put, generally it helps to be male.

dont even worry about the job market in 2011...its teh ecocomy that is causing this nursign shortage..once this economy picks back up..and baby boomers once again retire...there will be more jobs available
