Question about Excelsior BSN enrollment

I know that I have to register before taking any of the nursing classes for my BSN. If I take Patho, Abn Psychology, Earth Science etc...do I need to register before I can take those tests? Thanks.

No. You can, and should, take all general ed classes before enrolling in order to save time and money.

Wait, are you already an RN?

Don't take anything toward the Excelsior BSN until you answer that.

:)

Okay, I see in your name you're an RN.

I never took path and I'm in the program. Send in an application and they will give you an unofficial evaluation of your credits.

The other thing is Empite State College has a brand new on-line RN to BSN program that is cheaper - $181 a credit for NYS residents - than Excelsior and, I think, the better program. Far more clinical, and would better prepare you should you want a clinical masters. I didn't enroll in that one because you have to take 60 credits within the program and I already have credits up the wazoo and EC is only making me taking "Writing for the Professions" as a gend ed which leave me 27 credits until the bachelors. Whew, what a sentence!

I have completed the Excelsior RN to BSN. I would enroll before I took any classes. You want to be sure to get your advisor's input so that all the classes you take are applicable to your degree. Also, when you enroll formally the requirements for graduation are set and you should not be affected by any future changes to the requirements. I suppose it might save money to just take the classes you think are needed but you also take the risk that the classes you are taking are not the right ones. There is a fee for yearly advising. To me it was worth it to pay the fee. The advisors helped me to choose the right classes or tests taking cost into consideration. They are really knowledgeable and helpful. Advisors are well worth the yearly fee.

Best wishes in your pursuit of your degree.

I did check them out once before when someone mentioned it but I'm not really interested in more clinical. If I'm going just to get my BSN and move into management I don't see any point in more clinicals but thanks for the info.

I'm thinking to do the same thing. I just finished my CPNE and would like to pursue my BSN. I wanted to do it right away, but have to finish the NCLEX first. Then, I think I will probably get enrolled in the BSN program and take the general education classes through local community colleges, which will be cheaper. Any suggestions to the contrary?
