i start nursing school in the spring, and our clinicals are scheduled on mondays. i've heard that generally, the day prior to clinicals you are supposed to go pick up information pertaining to your clinicals. this is just speculative of course, but would this be friday or sunday for monday clinicals (i obviously know no one knows really and will need to ask the clinical instructors, but i am just curious as to everyone's experience with this)? also, do they typically give you a narrow "window" of time, or can you pick it up in the evenings after work or something? is the pre-clinical info an actual information session, or just paperwork that'll take a few minutes to grab?
i will be getting my answers to these questions at orientation next week, but i just wanted to get some feedback from others.
This semester my clinicals are Thursdays and my prof. posts our assignments Tuesday mornings at the hospital. So we have to go in and find out who we have and look at their chart and get as much info as possible to be prepared by Thursday. Last week was the 1st week and my pt. was discharged by the time I got there for my clinical day, so I was quickly assigned someone else that morning. This week, luckily my pt. wasn't discharged. So it happens. Anyway....next semester, I'll be choosing a Monday clinical day and I'm not sure how it'll work. But I'll be doing maternity...so not sure if we can even get assignments for that because moms are in and out. Maybe for the other half of the semester which is psych. Anyway....I'm sure we'll figure it out, lol. Good luck!
I have clinicals on Fridays this semester. Our patient assignment is left at the nurse's desk at the hospital on Thursdays. We can pick it up after 2 p.m. We have a series of questions that must me answered before clinical on Friday. I usually spend about 3 hours preparing my preclinical paperwork. After clinical on Friday, I usually spend an additional 2 hours filling in the gaps. We have to have ours turned in on Mondays at noon.

My first semester is in LTC facility and and we have them on mondays as well and we get them the day of, we get to pick and then will get their charts and look on the computer charting system to get all our info. Next semester we are going to the hospitals and I am not sure how it is but on some of the calanders I have seen Patient Research the day before so I think then we do it prior.
