Hi,
I was planning on taking a Chemistry class this summer to help meet the prereq for entry into the BSN program once im done with my ADN/RN. However I am confused about which class to take. The 2 Chemistry classes are
CHEM 1405 Intro to Chemistry
and
Chem 1411 General Chemistry 1.
I looked at the transfer guides on the websites of the 3 public Universities in Houston with an RN--> BSN program. TWU says either is fine. Prarie View's says to take CHEM 1405 whereas UT-Houston's transfer guide from North Harris says to take CHEM 1418 which looks like a typo since no such class exists.
Can someone confirm if CHEM 1405 would suffice at all 3 schools ? I dont want to have to repeat the class again. Also im guessing 1405 will be easier than 1411. Does anyone see a good reason to take 1411 over 1405 ?
Please share your thoughts.

I would think the best way to find out if this class is sufficient at all 3 schools would be to call the schools themselves and ask. This way you'll know for sure if you can transfer that course over.
This way you have first hand knowledge instead of relying on someone on these boards to answer and potentially giving you the wrong answer. Remember, if you need an answer, go straight to the source and get the correct info from the schools themselves.
Good luck.

ut-h told me i could do 1411 or 1413 (college chemistry I - for nursing majors) at hccs for transfer credit. i would call and verify that they accept 1405, since it is an intro course.
you can't take chem II or organic chem without chem 1411, so i took 1411. at the time, i wasn't sure about requirements for masters and phd programs, so i took it to ensure i could transition smoothly into those courses without taking a lot of pre-reqs.
and you are correct. 1411 is more difficult than 1405.

UTMB told me that any chemistry would be fine. I can't remember what UT said; however, I took 1411. I'm not a big fan of chemistry, but felt that the higher level chemistry would be an advantage if I went beyond my BSN. The CC I was enrolled in had the Intro to Chem kind of geared for nursing majors; whereas, the 1411 also involved some physics, etc. I still can't believe I pulled an A out of that class! ZZZZZZZZZ You definitely need to call the school(s) directly because they change prereqs all the time.

In Austin, 1405 is Intro to Chem, and 1411 is Gen Chem I. The UT Nursing Dept, told me to take 1411 & 1412 (Gen Chem II). She said that General Chem is actually a more advanced class than the Organic/Inorganic Chems, whatever that's worth. I would figure to take the highest possible class, because it should fulfill a lower prereq at any school, whereas it wouldn't work the other way around. I personally hadn't taken Chemistry in years, so I am glad I took Intro first though ~ my Chem I class assumes we are familiar with the subject and kinda breezes over a lot of the basics. But yeah, only the schools can really help you out!:wink2: Good luck though!!
