Queensborough Community College (QCC) Fall 2024

Published

Hello Everyone,

Applications start next Monday and I was wondering if anyone wants to share their science GPA or PAX scores? I am taking my exam tomorrow evening (cutting it close). I am so nervous for this application. We can utilize this thread to also talk about upcoming interviews and who got accepted and with which stats.

https://www.calculator.net/GPA-calculator.html

The above link is a resource for those who need help calculating their GPA. Plug in the following classes and your grades.

EN 101 English Composition I  3 credits

PSYC-101 Psychology I  3 credits

MATH-119/MATH-336 Math I  3 credits

BI-301 Anatomy and Physiology I  4 credits

Total Pre-Clinical Credits -  13

As per their website the following substitutions are allowed for an overall stronger GPA.

Bio-302 for Bio-301

Eng-102 for Eng-101

PSYC-220 for PSYC-101

And I was told by the nursing department to substitute my A&P I score (B-) for my A&P II score (A).

My GPA with the adjusted grade came out to 3.677 and it's making me so stressed.

Once I receive my PAX grade I will respond to this post.

Hopefully starting this conversation will help someone as I found previous posts like this comforting and full of information (dates of when interviews are scheduled, when acceptances/rejections are sent out, when the program begins, etc)

Studying for the pax I used the Red NLN RN Pre-Entrance EXAM book that was suggested, the practice exams provided by NLN website, the NLN PAX app on iphone and quizlets (although quizlets were just a lot of regurgitated from the NLN website)

For some background information, I applied previously to an accelerated private school program and got in, however that school was not yet accredited and I did not want to gamble with loans. I took the HESI for that school and got an almost perfect score (subtle brag) but I definitely felt that compared to the content on the PAX, the HESI exam was easier and it did not have a physics topic.

Sorry for the long post, but Good Luck EVERYONE (if anyone sees this post, ever)

What day did you apply?

I applied on the 17th.

Maybe they were waiting to receive all applications this time around. Let's see on Monday.

Oh OK. I applied on the 21st. What I am confused about is that they said I would get a response at the end of the semester, so if interviews were happening why would they say that then? You also got that too right?

Right, same LOL. I brought that up to atori earlier in the thread but she said that pertains to hearing back about whether or not you got accepted into the program.

It's still a little confusing that they specifically said "end of the semester,” IMO and makes it sound like they're not doing interviews but I guess we just have to wait and see.

They truly favor people who already completed microbio.

That's so true because I know people that have gotten 110 on PAX and C in Microbio and yet they get in the program just for passing Microbio.

The waiting is killing me LOL

I guess to them regardless of the grade received that student technically completed ALL the requirements vs those who have Micro outstanding even if you plan on taking it before the start of the program in Fall. I still think they should accept a student who has a pending coreq. I believe they should start sending out interview dates within the next 2 weeks. They just closed the application window so they're probably still reviewing applications.

I called the nursing department and explained how I was told yes during my previous interview, and I was confused about getting denied and she said that the nursing department does not like to "take chances" on people who did not complete microbio. So I said it should be a requirement because what's needed to apply doesn't necessarily say that microbio is required, but it is favored. And she continued to say "who knows if you're even going to pass, you can fail this Summer and then we end up kicking you out of the program anyway".

I wish I got her name. She was so rude and demeaning I couldn't believe it. I know they're getting a lot of calls lately but have some compassion sheeesh.

Wow that is wild!! Thank goodness I already passed Microbio!!

Yeah I had a feeling that was the reason, it's the "chance" they don't wanna take. BUT if that's the case set it as a "requirement" and not as a "preference". Some ADN programs don't ask for it because it's already incorporated in the program itself.

Oh woooow. Makes me wonder if I should even have applied being that I don't have microbio completed yet.

They really, really should just make that a requirement but I'm sure that would mean that less people would apply each semester.

Its crazy because I know people who were in the process of taking it and still got accepted
