Hello Everyone,
Applications start next Monday and I was wondering if anyone wants to share their science GPA or PAX scores? I am taking my exam tomorrow evening (cutting it close). I am so nervous for this application. We can utilize this thread to also talk about upcoming interviews and who got accepted and with which stats.
https://www.calculator.net/GPA-calculator.html
The above link is a resource for those who need help calculating their GPA. Plug in the following classes and your grades.
EN 101 English Composition I 3 credits
PSYC-101 Psychology I 3 credits
MATH-119/MATH-336 Math I 3 credits
BI-301 Anatomy and Physiology I 4 credits
Total Pre-Clinical Credits - 13
As per their website the following substitutions are allowed for an overall stronger GPA.
Bio-302 for Bio-301
Eng-102 for Eng-101
PSYC-220 for PSYC-101
And I was told by the nursing department to substitute my A&P I score (B-) for my A&P II score (A).
My GPA with the adjusted grade came out to 3.677 and it's making me so stressed.
Once I receive my PAX grade I will respond to this post.
Hopefully starting this conversation will help someone as I found previous posts like this comforting and full of information (dates of when interviews are scheduled, when acceptances/rejections are sent out, when the program begins, etc)
Studying for the pax I used the Red NLN RN Pre-Entrance EXAM book that was suggested, the practice exams provided by NLN website, the NLN PAX app on iphone and quizlets (although quizlets were just a lot of regurgitated from the NLN website)
For some background information, I applied previously to an accelerated private school program and got in, however that school was not yet accredited and I did not want to gamble with loans. I took the HESI for that school and got an almost perfect score (subtle brag) but I definitely felt that compared to the content on the PAX, the HESI exam was easier and it did not have a physics topic.
Sorry for the long post, but Good Luck EVERYONE (if anyone sees this post, ever)

To be honest for me, it felt less like an interview where you have to be giving correct answers to each question and more like a chill group conversation. For our group, we just went from the right most person to the left most person, where the professor would give a unique question to each of us to really get a feel for you as a potential future nurse. We did two rounds of this and at the end of each round, people are free to chime in on their opinion. Towards the end, everyone asked questions to the professor. Overall, the vibes were nice! Also for those with medical experience, you should mention that too during the interview.
Now for those that are taking Microbiology during the Summer, the professor said you are on pending status. So I guess you are kind of on a waitlist and once your Microbiology grades post. Only then can you be accepted to the Fall 2024 Nursing program. So it is possible for you to not get the acceptance until July for those taking Microbiology during the Summer. Anyway, good luck for anyone taking the interview in the coming weeks!
Thanks so much for the info!! Fingers crossed I get a similar experience!!

I just received email my interview tomorrow will be virtual instead of in person. Not sure why..
thats honestly amazing thats its virtual, I hope its not a virtual group interview though! I feel like personal interviews are best because you won't have someone trying to outshine the group, and there can be times where you want to answer something but someone else already had the same answer. Best of luck to you! I hope a virtual interview works in your favor!

Thank you for all of the info! my interview last semester was very similar.
I really wish they could be more straight forward with their expectations for students who don't have Microbiology as of yet. I was accepted to hunter college as a transfer, so what if I pay for my semester and I'm weeks away from starting and they send out a last minute email saying I'm accepted.. Or since this is my second time applying I believe this time it'll happen for sure and I hold off on Hunter hoping I get in this time and I don't get in again.
I was told that I passed my interview and the professor showed me my rubric of the interview and wrote YES! on the bottom of the paper with my name on it. She really liked that I'm currently a medical assistant and said I have a great foundation to be a successful nursing student and registered nurse in the future.
I had a GPA of 3.21 and a 144 pax score and still got denied.
To make things worse I haven't received a reschedule date for the interview this semester.
I put my life on hold thinking I was going to get in and I'm in the same position alll over again. I'm just venting but it sure is frustrating 😭

They should really just make Micro a requirement at this point.

There's still time left, don't worry. You have until the 19th.
@atori You're taking Micro this Summer right?
@RGP22 and @pixelgalaxy2 Did you get a rubric for your interview with a YES like atori did?

Our interviewer had a rubric she was writing on but she didn't give anyone a yes or no at the end, nor did she let anyone see the rubrics.

It's extremely deceptive that the sample curriculum for the program tells you that you'll be taking A&P 102 with NU 101 but the reality is you have virtually no chance of getting in unless you've completed all the co-reqs.
You have a right to be frustrated. It's pretty upsetting.
I got my reschedule date for my interview! its 5/1 and it's a group interview, I can't believe they're doing interviews that late. I guess that means a lot of people applied.

yes im till taking microbio this Summer!
Interview completed! Now the waiting game begins... I am SO nervous for this application. But the interview was very chill, prof had us first talk to the person next to us and tell them about ourself. Then we had to tell the prof about what our partner said to us and then she asked us 4 questions!

From what I can see, you're most likely not going to hear back until July. I also got a friend who took Microbiology during the Summer and didn't hear back for her Fall 2023 acceptance until July.
