Anyone else out there get accepted for the ABSN program starting this May? I want to swap information about financial aid, housing, and general thoughts and opinions.

Thanks! Good luck to you too! :) Are you still in the program or are you finished? What school?!

89% is considered dismal, in the Nursing school world.. Go for it if you want, good luck! I am coming from a 100% NCLEX school though, so I guess I am biased.

VioletKali, I've noticed on other posts that you are an LPN student at Gaston College. I just checked the NC BON and actually the pass rate in 2010 for the LPN program was 97%. The RN pass rate for 2010 was 86% at Gaston College. I am not putting down Gaston College by any means. In fact, my cousin and a great high school friend of mine both earned their nursing degrees from there.

I just wanted to point that out.

Hi JF818
I lived at the Marquis at Northcross apartments for one year last year. It's in Huntersville, NC, about 25 mins from Queen's. It's a higher-end area with a lot of great shopping/restaurants. The office people were very nice and always helpful. They are pet friendly/dog friendly and have a mini dog park, tennis court, gym, and pool area. I've seen quite a few college-looking students who live there, too. I highly recommend the Marquis. If you have any questions about areas to live in just ask! I've lived here for a year and a half now and pretty familiar with certain areas. Good luck!

I have periodically checked out the NCBON and noticed that many respectable schools here in NC have had their scores to drop to warning status (LPN, ADN, & BSN). There are even schools that are functioning today in NC that have reinstated. I have respect for both Gaston and Queens. I feel biased towards Queens-Presbyterian School of Nursing mainly due to my many years working for Presbyterian Healthcare. However I will be happy with which ever acceptance letter I receive. I have colleagues and friends that graduated from the original Presbyterian School of Nursing before it merged with Queens. I'm currently wailisted at Queens, waiting on another ADN program's response, and waiting on a response from Gaston. Both schools produced remarkable nurses and congrats to those accepted to either school!

I am still on the waiting list for the 2011 ABSN program. Does anyone have any idea when we should be hearing by? And does anyone else think it is ridiculously close to the first day of class to still not have a decision made? Class starts in 34 days last time I counted so I need to get my affairs in order, but I don't want to start any more lengthy application processes for other jobs or schools if I still have a chance of getting off the waitlist.

Annie89, I still think you have a good chance of getting in because the school is so expensive and offer barely any financial aid. This means some students will have to see how they can make up the rest of the cost, and sadly some may not be able to afford it and may have to give up their seat. You should definitely be hearing within the next two weeks because that is when students have to turn in all their paperwork. Tuition is due May 9th, so I am assuming they will let you know by then.
thanks for the info! appreciate it. i am going to try to call their office this week as well.
Is anyone planning on working on weekends or during the week?

Hi Reese211...
I am planning on working Saturday nights and potentially some Fridays during the summer term. I will start with that to try and make a little money to help cover living expenses, and I'll see how it goes. Anybody else going to try and work at all?
Hi AmandaLG
Good for you! I was going to try and work on weekends, too, but I'm hoping I won't be too bombarded with studying to do so. We will see!
Thanks for responding.

Hey yall!
I am thinkning about attending Queens in May for the ABSN program and I was wondering how you guys have liked it so far (I know youre almost done!). I havent seen many recent threads about the program. How are the clinicals, professors, course and work loads, etc. I heard some comments about the school being on probabtion and I really wanted to ask the students to see if its true and what they think ahout the program as a whole. Basically, should I go there?? haha I would love to get my degree done in a year.
Thanks!!
