  1. Annie89, I still think you have a good chance of getting in because the school is so expensive and offer barely any financial aid. This means some students will have to see how they can make up the rest of the cost, and sadly some may not be able to afford it and may have to give up their seat. You should definitely be hearing within the next two weeks because that is when students have to turn in all their paperwork. Tuition is due May 9th, so I am assuming they will let you know by then.
  2. Hey Susan12! Congrats on getting in :) Have you received any information from the university yet? I have still not heard anything from them. They have not even informed me of whether they received my deposit. I'm getting anxious because without any financial information I can't really make a decision on where to live.
  3. I submitted my deposit too but my main concerns are where I am going to live (some parts of Charlotte are ridden with crime and very sketchy) and what types of financial aid I can receive. Hopefully Queens has suggestions for good private lenders. Since this is my second bachelors I learned that you cannot receive any kind of government sponsored grant. I have heard that Queens has a great nursing program. I'm really excited and waiting for them to email information about enrollment. If the university has it's own housing I will most likely live on campus, because so far the apartment search is not going so well.
  4. Anyone else out there get accepted for the ABSN program starting this May? I want to swap information about financial aid, housing, and general thoughts and opinions.
  5. I got accepted into the ABSN program at Queens! I start this may and graduate next May :)
  6. Thank you so much for the information. I kind of sensed the "look the other way" administration during my interview. The interview process was very uncomfortable, and I found that some of the officials had a somewhat condescending tone while asking and answering questions. Before considering a career in nurse anesthesiology, I wanted to become a pharmacist and even during my pharmacy school interviews I was treated with more respect, and felt much more comfortable around the staff. I got the impression that they looked at applicants with previous degrees in hard sciences with "suspicious eyes". They kept suggesting that I was using nursing as a fall back option because I couldn't cut it for PHD programs. Believe it or not some people don't really know what they want to do with their lives until they go through years of trial and error. I was accepted into pharmacy school and chose not to go, I was not rejected. So that show's how much they don't know! I was genuine in telling they how I felt about nursing, that I loved how nurses were more hands-on with patients, and etc...but I did not appreciate the interviewers belittling my honesty and character.
  7. I love the idea of the ABSN program because I am a quick learner and love that it is fast paced and challenging, but it is really expensive. Tuition alone is about $38,000. I was wondering if student loans are my only option. Has anyone had any luck with scholarships? How are job prospects after graduation? I would rather hear from actual nursing students than faculty or advisers because they seem to sugar coat information to make their programs more appealing. I want to become a nurse but I have heard from many nursing students that new grads are having a terrible time finding jobs in Charlotte. I do not want to come out with about $40,000+ in loan debt with no job because I have a family to take care of.
  8. Can anyone also tell me a little bit about the financial aid available for the ABSN program? Any help is greatly appreciated thanks :)
  9. Hey alipearson16! Omg what a coincidence, I didn't get an initial email for any alternate list but I did receive an invitation for Oct 15th too :) We might even get to meet haha. I am so nervous because my gpa and teas were not as competitive as they could have but I have a lot of experience working and volunteering in different healthcare settings.Western Carolina was my first and only choice. I am so nervous. Congrats and I hope we both get in!
  10. Has anyone here graduated from Western Carolina's ABSN program or are currently enrolled? I would love to hear feedback about things like the interview process, financial aid, curriculum, faculty, and student housing. Any information is greatly appreciated! :)
  11. Unfortunately I didn't get in. I am shocked at how competitive it is. I thought I was a decent candidate too.
  12. The only difference between the two is that a CNA has more options in terms of working setting because they may work in a hospital or clinic etc because employers see them as having more "medical" education. Habilitation tech's job is aimed more towards companionship, mentoring, supervising...sometimes they are kind of like an assistant. I worked as both before but let me tell you that being a CNA gets paid less, I've seen 3-4 dollar differences per an hour.
  13. Hey everyone, I have an awesome update. I just received an interview for the ABSN program. I'm nervous and was wondering if anyone had any pointers. I also have a question about housing. Does anyone have suggestions on where to live if you are a single female with limited income?
  14. Anatomy and Physiology was offered as separate courses at my university. Does anyone know if the courses will transfer over since WSSU requires "Anatomy&Physiology I" and "Anatomy&Physiology II". Thanks in advance :)
  15. Hi everyone :) I'm applying for WSSU's ABSN for 2011 and just wanted to know if I even have a chance at it since nursing is so competitive these days. I will graduate this fall with a BA in Biology with a gpa of about 3.2 give or take. My prereqs are as follow: Microbiology-B Anatomy- B Physiology-B ChemistryI -A ChemistryII -B Dev Psy.-A Statistics-B Computer Science-A Should I retake any prereqs? I feel so discouraged because although I try so hard I always end up making B's...and there ain't nothing sweet about it lol
