Quebec and NCLEX

Hi,

I'm a licensed nurse in Quebec and I live in Vermont (really close to the border!). I've been working with CGFNS and VT bord of nursing to get licensed in Vermont for a year and a half now, and I am finally at the stage where I am asked to register for the NCLEX.

In the registration form, they ask me where I graduated. For countries, Canada is listed as a choice. Great. But then Quebec doesn't exist as a province?? Also, in their list of program code for North America, there is no code provided for the entire province of Quebec. I am denied registration because of this issue. I called Pearson Vue (registration people), NCSBN, Vermont Board of Nursing and Quebec's board of nurses, they ALL tell me to ask somebody else, playing ping-pong with me.

I can't believe I'm the first Quebec nurse to go through this. Anybody has had this issue before?

Thanks for your help!

I also finished CEGEP nursing this year and am trying to take the NCLEX through Pearson. I registered through the Minnesota Nursing board since it is supposedly the fastest and easiest for Quebec. They said I can now register with Pearsonvue to take the NCLEX, but I can not do so since Quebec is not listed as an option on schools graduated from and the "Canada" code stated above doesn't seem to work.

How can I do this to register and take it? I know it can be done since I have a classmate that just did it and moved to Florida.

After multiple searches and getting nowhere, I was finally able to find the NCSBM Program codes and used the International Code for CANADA "CA99F00000"

I am now waiting on the ATT from the MN nursing board :)

Hope this helps!

AkMN when you registered and paid the fee how long did it take for them to validate. I just failed my OIIQ so I would like to take the NCLEX route. Also have you received your ATT ?

They say up to two weeks wait, so tomorrow will be week one, and then one more week to go before they technically should have replied by and given me the ATT. Although the MN nursing board has been slow and having issues this Summer with striking, so hopefully won't be delayed.

Thank you for taking the time to respond !
Will you be transferring your NCLEX to Quebec ?

You're welcome.

I don't think Quebec accepts the NCLEX as far as I know.

Planning on moving to the States since that's where I'm originally from, and my French isn't that great. I'm still a CEPI since I have the French exam to take LOL.. Only in Quebec.

That’s where I am from as well, and what I will be doing as well. LOL question in the application it asks for a business address I don’t know that as a CEPI am I working as a nurse? Should I include it in my application ?

I'd like to follow up on this too, I am from NY but moved to Quebec with my then husband. Now I am finished my DEC and will be going to McGill in the fall, I would like to take my NCLEX to be able to work in the states. However when I go on the NYS nursing board site there are streamlined applications but the exception is Quebec. What did you end up doing ?

I'm also from NY trying to move to Quebec but looking up the process is scaring me. We'd have to take Quebec's province nursing exam which has a limit of 3 times within 2 years and be proficient in French. Did you take the exam ?

Just an FYI, take it in another province then transfer.

The other provinces use NCLEX. I believe even nurses from the other provinces have to take quebec's nursing exam since they don't use NCLEX.

No. They don't. If coming from another province you d won't retake the exam. The purpose for using another province is so you have to do it in French. The post mentioned moving to Canada.
