Quarter of my questions were select-all-that-apply: how is this possible?

aaahhhhh!!!!!

just took nclex-pn this morning and not feeling very confident about it. seriously about 1/4 of my questions (and i only had 85) were multiple answer questions...i thought there would only be a few at most. also i had no questions involving math (med calc, i&o), no hot spot, no ordered response, no fill in the blank. this seems unfairly unbalanced. it felt like i was taking a test to be a professional presenter, like 10 questions were 'you went to a conference on ____, which of these points would you/would you not stress when giving a presentation on it to your colleagues. maybe some of these were just experimental questions.....i'm hoping....

anyone else have a similar experience?

aeolus, i had the same experience with the new format. answered 230 questions no hot spot, no sounds, 2 maths and about 30 SATA and most were a nurse in conference type of question, I felt kind of lost in those type of questions really. Unfortunately I failed the NCLEX again this was my 3rd attempt, very depressed and unmotivated, I need some help and new stategies i guess.

I have the Alternate format book...guess I'll be breaking that our this wkend when I start my nclex review.

I LOATH SATA questions... :(

Good Luck! I hope you passed!!

@kati55-sorry to hear you had the same kind of nightmare questions. but don't give up~

@shannon-better be prepared for the sata, though really its the luck of the draw what kind of questions come up

hmmmmmmmmm earlier i was sure i failed but now i'm not so sure....my last question was a hard one and i know i got it right so maybe i was being asked hard questions? hoping! i live in cali so i'll have to wait...

Any advice for preparing those type questions I am open and willing to try anything.

I really hope I don't get a lot of SATA's--I'm terrible at them! I do fine with regular multiple choice, but with SATA there's always one or two that I'm wavering about and then I get the whole question wrong. :(

In school we use ATI for test prep but they don't really offer any skills for answering SATA's.

I took the test today and got a good pop up. My test stopped at 80 questions with more than 10 SATAs (select-all-that-apply), 5 meds, 1 ped, mainly delegation +prioritization, and infection control. I had no hot spot, no fill in the blank, no audio, no MATH (which I'm really good at), no maternity. Overall, I liked the SATAs presented and the test wasn't that hard (compared to Kaplan). Kaplan is way harder. I only scored 55-65 with Kaplan but with Saunders, NCBSN, and the real NCLEX- questions are more straightforward. I wish I could give an example from the test. I remembered most of the questions (I have good short span memory) but I can't disclose them. Anyway, be prepared for everything because any test is different. One tip though: PRACTICE QUESTIONS AND READ RATIONALES. Read the whole Kaplan Course Book (if you have it). Best of luck!

The good pop up is a good sign. I tried the PVT trick and when i got to the cc page i never bothered paying the quick result fee I just waited for my report in the mail. Smallkitty00 CONGRATS! :yeah:. I did kaplan but didn"t work for me I am using saunders 4th ed and think their questions are straight forward and kind of easy. The board questions were much harder. I refused to give up.

I'm so sorry to hear that you did not pass, but we have to see it like an experience and not a failure. Can you tell me more about the q with the nurse in conference? I looked on the net and i could not found anything about that..

Theoretically, any combination of question types is possible. Best wishes with your official results.

It is just like aeolus mentioned in her post: "you went to a conference on ____, which of these points would you/would you not stress when giving a presentation on it to your colleagues".

I had the same problem with my test this morning. Feeling very upset right now.
