No, but a positive test may mean more quarantine and time off work, and I find hospitals will do anything to not give you extended PTO ?

I mean so they would send them home to prevent it spreading to patients. If someone has it, even if they were not showing symptoms, they could be spreading it to patients and co-workers.

Yes but the current laws in this very recent situation hasn't updated to allow you to get paid , for being sent home, a lot of nurses come to work even though they are sick, to avoid, using their PTO or very strict penalties for call outs, I've seen nurses working while actively vomiting evey couple of hours and nurse managers saying nothing. It's a unique virus that you can pass it and be asymptotic but the documentation is key to receive fair pay for the time off your being asked to take.

unfortunately the Coronavirus did not inspire bill collectors to stop collecting

I see what you are saying. Who do you think would be in the best position to fix the problem or advocate for nurses?

Hmmm I'm not sure , I pulled myself out of bedside nursing a long time ago. This pandamic has shown me the power of people and if they pressure enough in numbers their leaders will act, thats why the government response to this is severe (but appropriate)

honestly, a bunch of nurses would have to jointly band together and refuse to have to suffer financial loss in this. Quarantine esp since Starbucks and the like are getting paid.

the next statement I will say is very controversial and will receive backlash.

Alot of nurses are women, and women are naturally not known to fight back, they are very good at taking the unfairness and dealing with it, also as a whole they are not united and may fear extreme retaliation from judgemental workers who feel that they should give their last breath for patients safety (which even the judges preaching that would not actually do ) if nursing was a male dominated field, this might work, and believe it or not in this pandemic nurse have alot of power, but this power involves bravery ?

p.s I understand that I am removed from the bedside role and my comment is not politically correct, but I'm saying what I believe is the truth in the nicest way possible attack if you wish ?

p.s. part two if this virus has the power to shut the lights on the big suits and pharma companies that have been taking over healthcare and has the power to shut down the lights on the US economy than I believe nurses who are the mandates soldiers in this battle should have a lot more say, I read one state is so short on nurses due to most being quarantined that they are training medical residents to do bedside nursing roles to fill in....

I think you are right.

I speak for myself that I would rather remove myself from a situation I do not agree with, then fight it. I don't think attacking anyone's opinion is going to make anything better. If someone thinks they have a better solution I would hope they speak up but attacking does not solve anything.

I agree, I think that healthcare workers do have a lot of power right now.

I'm so glad two humans can have a conversation about a problem and not insult each other or be mean . You are a great nurse stay safe ?

The CDC is telling us to wear bandanas! Nurses are wearing plastic trash bags to protect themselves. They lock up the n9 masks. They have had months to make masks. Truth is they do not CARE about us or our families.. It is shocking and very sad. We put a mask on the patients and wear one. I have y own supply of n95 luckily from the past. I got them from home depot. One of our patients came to the ER twice with no symptoms, just anxiety and aches. She got a chest CT and had the classic ground glass effect of covid in lungs. Then she got tested after exposing multiple staff twice. The only way they would care is if everyone left the workforce and the bosses had to take care of patients. How much does an n 95 mask cost. !! Please look at OSHA and ppe for vivid. The cvc doesn't care.

I love hyperbole as much as you. But when you're posting about a critical situation, serious information, you lose your audience by using hyperbole.

In what universe, in what alternate reality, in what world, do you think the doctors, scientists, researchers, staff, at the CDC think beside nurses and their families don't matter?

"We need to replace hyperbole with a reasonable, informed discussion... " Mike Quigley. I like; "Don't curse the darkness, light a candle".

I do think the poster means, they are not taking the safety of the frontline staff very seriously or seriously enough , but I think the present situation is one that was so unprecedented that this is the best they can do, I guess trashbags snd bandanas are better than nothing. Just hope the coughing sneezing patient just has allergies and not covid-19

the only thing I have to say is , there is still a choice, there is non bedside non patient exposure jobs in healthcare, change isn't easy, but thank goodness we have the choice

We are each entitled to our own opinions. These were facts. When government is stockpiling, that is shocking. They do not do that in other countries. Now they have enacted the disaster system. Thank the Lord. Hopefully we will have adequate PPE very soon.

Thanks, all I wanted was facts. Could you direct me to the news article about the government, including the CDC, was stockpiling PPE and not providing it to bedside nurses until now?
