Ok this is a little off the wall but I'm wondering if hospital issue scrub pants have a side seam. I cannot remember!! I wear skirts and saw directions for turning sweats into skirts and it looks like they were made that way b/c sweats don't have a side seam. One of the hospitals I'm applying at gives you scrubs so I thought in lieu of trying to find matching fabric I may try to make skirts out of the scrubs if I get hired there. Hmmm.... Thanks in advance for helping me brainstorm.

The ones where I work do have side seams but I'm not sure they will let you turn the pants into skirts. My hospital has a fit when scrub pants goes missing.

WHAT?
These aren't issued and returned, they are given to you. For keeps. :)

what kind of job do you have where a skirt is practical? climbing on a bed and doing compressions during a code could get awkward in a skirt, along with many other activities!

I completely agree... that being said, there are some religions which require women to wear skirts. I know an x-ray tech who wears them for religious purposes.

I do alot of sewing and am picturing making a skirt out of scrub pants. I think it can be done even if the pants have a side seam. I wonder if you could write to the company that provides the scrubs and see if they'll sell you fabric, too. I bet they would. They might even sell skirts!
It's a religious issue and I've always worn them...thus I have done and can do anything in a skirt and stay modest including nursing. Also, nurses wore skirts for many many many many years before they started wearing pants. Women didn't exactly sit around and knit up until 50 years ago. That's not actually what I asked anyway.
Thanks Whispera! I have friends who have made them out of scrub pants and they have that little triangle in front sort of like some jean skirts do. I recently heard of a new way of doing that and was thinking it would work with scrub pants too and if there's no side seam then there would be no front seam! Just a different look. :) Good idea about calling the company for fabric! I sew a lot too and it's generally easier to make a skirt from scratch than convert it and if I got the fabric then there would be no matching issue. Cool!
