I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread for PVAMU CON 2011 hopefulls! As you will see, I have a lot of questions and concerns! I am at Texas Southern University and I am applying for spring 2011. My science, core, and overall GPA's are above a 3.5 and i have taking the HESI and recieved 84 on math and grammar, 85 on reading comp, but i missed the A&P by 3pts.. i made a 72:mad:! But it was b/c i was taking the exam for UT and they require the vocab and i before i began the A&P section I was crying b/c i failed the vocab section.. i was ******! Anyways, any adive on what to study for the vocab section or A&P section (even though i found it somewhat easy)? I hope this thread will help us in the long run! :)
And if there is already a thread for sorry didnt find it!

hello! im a sophmore pre nursing student at PV and am gonna apply for clinical this fall, 2010 in order to attend in spring of 2011. I have all my application, letter of reccs and essay done, and am just waiting to recieve my last letter from my previous advisor.
i took the hesi test, and it was easy, definitely study with the study guide and MEMORIZE your conversions for math for ex. liters, gallons, pints, ounces. I know these questions came up AlOT, at least on my test. An we only need to take 4 sections (grammar, reading comprehension, anatomy and physiology, and math) and the critical thinking section, which will not be scored.
also, ur SUPPOSe to take the hesi AFTER you have submitted you clinicals application and they (the nursing advisors) give you the "go ahead" to take it, thats what ms ******** and ****** told me. I took it before because as you can probably understand they tend to not make things abundently clear from the get go. However if you, like me, to it too early then they should still accept it cause mrs ****** said that i dont have to take it again since i passed the test.
as for studying for vocabulary idk cause thats always been my strong suit. it helps when i read the context of the whole sentence and get of feel of it first. also learning associative words help, so that if you dont know that word, you might know another word that means the closest to wat that word, in that sentence, is saying...im sorry if that made no sense lol

Angel1990,
I'm studying vocabulary from quizlet.com and just search hesi on the search box and it will give you plenty of option. I got a 68 on anatomy so I'm studying alot.
i retake the exam on tuesday so i just anxious to get it over with... the vocab i think i have now mastered b/c i used quizlet and studied medical terminology. Thanks blackberrie_281 and loveshunshine!!
**Blackberrie_281, good luck im sure youre gonna get in! I still have to submitt my scores therefore I am behind. How many rec letters are needed and was the essay more of a personal atatement or how was it?? I also heard that PV goes based on a first-come first-serve basis.. have you heard anything as such?
** Lovesunshine, when are you taking the HESI?
3 letters of Reccomendation are needed
The essay is a personal statement, yes. Its about you PERCEPTION of the nursing field, ur health related experience, work experience, strength and weaknesses and what YOU will contribute to the program. so, def a personal essay lol
It is first come first serve so dont wait till the deadline to put in your application!! once all the spots are filled, its filled, unless on of those people who got accepted decide not to attend the program.
Angel1990 I just took the test! Anatomy was hard they had some question I didn't expect at all I got 16 question right out of 25! So I didn't pass But study study Dont be nervous! good luck
the anatomy section was kinda hard n i didnt remember as much as i should have considering i finished up my anatomy courses this past spring semester.
I just took the HESI today, here are my score:
Reading Comp=89.354
Math=92
Grammar=92
Biology=100
A&P=84
Chemistry=84
Vocab=78
Critical Thinking=780
Hopefully these are good enough! It was a huge relief!
*Blackberrie_281, yes i agree the A&P section was very hard!! Have you taken A&P 1 &2?? I think thats where i recieved a general idea of it all.
*Blackberrie_281, for the rec letters does it consist of a certain order and specific material needed in the rec letters? And do they have to be from professors? and do they mail them in or can we deliver them? Im asking b/c i havent sent my scores yet.. the lady wasnt in today.
*Lovesunshine, did you take A&P? i think that actually helped me for that section. have yous cheduled to retake it before the deadline?
I finished a&p during my freshmand yr (last yr). It generally helped on the hesi but i seriously had to make educated guesses during that section of the exam.
Here's the link that shows the nursing application form, as well as explains the goal of the essay
http://www.pvamu.edu/PDFFiles/Nursing/Admissions/Clinical%20App%20--Revised%20June%202009.pdf
Btw, they want ONE PAGE, not the "1,000" word minimum.
...its like, i know eveyone makes mistakes but really? thats not even possible in reality lol the only way 1,000 words could fit on one page is if i shrink the font size to 2 lol
blackberrie_281,
after you submitted everything for PV nursing did they mail you instructions for rec letters and the essay or what? I just spoke with them today and she said she just recieved my scores and has to verify that everything is completeted. You're applying for the traditional degree (2 yr undergrade, then 2 yrs at the nursing school) right?
yes im there for the 4 yr degree, my bachelors degree. and that information was on their website.
im gonna submit my nursing apppliction to mrs T tomooro, if she is there. im gonna give it to her in person, if she is okay wit that, since i live on campus.
wat scores are you talkin bout? my thea score is already in the system n i sent them mt hesi score but i havent recieved anything sayin they recieved it> i printed out my scores though so if they need it to be re sent it shouldnt (hopefully) be a problem
well i wasnt sure if that was needed (the app on the link you posted) but i guess so.. she told me she would send me notification this week so i guess ill wait til then.
