Anyone out there have info on the school in Arecibo, PR? It is a 24 month program that begins in August.

I'd love to hear anything, thanks.

Is there anyway to get your ADN, take the necessary test for Puerto Rico then work as an ADN while continuing in the BSN program?

You can take the NCLEX after completing all the ADN level classes - which I think about a year (just after the Peds rotation). Then continue on to finish the BSN classes at Metro campus or...I suppose, transfer to a school in another state.

It's kinda awesome, actually, for you folks. Good luck.

I've decided that I am going to go ahead and apply to Puerto Rico, Interamericana for the English program! EEPS!! Still have a couple questions, I am aware that I have to send my transcripts...do I have to send them ALL?? I graduated from UC Santa Barbara, CA and attended several community colleges...would I have to send them transcripts from ALL those schools?? Also, do I have to send them my transcripts at the same time I am sending them my application? Or do I send my transcripts at a later time? Am I applying as an Undergrad or Transfer student? Again, I already have my B.A. from a university here in California as previously mentioned. Is there anything else that I am going to need to send over? For example, a catalog from ALL the schools that I attended or is that not even necessary? I would rather send everything all at once..also, would I be requesting OFFICIAL transcripts??? or unofficial (though I assume official). Hope someone can help answer my question! I've been debating for almost 9 months and I finally decided that I will try and apply to the school! Hopefully someone can reply quickly before I back out again! hehehehehe! :D!!!

To owlyhecate, I am also an LVN and I have found a website for the forms to apply for LVN/LPN license in puerto rico. I also spoke with Mr. E at the university, and he emailed me an application to the university, in which I am going to mail today. He said that I could send the app first then send my college transcripts, and I could copy and paste the catalog descriptions of my classes. I am trying to get in for August 2011!

To those of you that are already in the program, could you enlighten me on how the program is, and is there anyone on this board anticipating enrollment August 2011. I already have my LVN/LPN license, I am curious if I could work there and go to school. Any infor would be greatly appreciated. Also on the school's website, it states that it also has a trimester that starts in November, I am wondering is that for the accelerated program or not. I don't have a bachelor's degree.

Thank you so much for the extra info WorldTravelingYogi and Designer Mommy! I'll be sending off my application on Wednesday, just waiting on one more item. Good luck on your finals!

Ekks I stoped getting notifications AGAIN from this site and now there are a bunch of posts. Sorry Dafina I asked you to post here and then I disappeared.

Yes it is possible but it is very, very hard to find a job here and you have to speak Spanish. But there is a gringo that has recently gotten a job while this person finishes out the rest of the year. So yes it is possible.

Stephanie to be safe send all transcripts. I sent one from University of Nevada at Reno when I did a study abroad in the Basque country and it was only a 3 unit class.

Yes send official transcripts.

I had to prove to them that I didn't need Christan Faith because I had a minor in Religious Studies (went to a Catholic Uni and had a few religion classes, why not). So I had to show descriptions of my religious studies classes but that is it. Some of their requirements are quite absurd. Let me know if you need contact info for "E?" He is the English liason that helps all the gringos.

But I will be honest it is best to come here about a month after you apply because you will go CRAZY over the phone. And when you come bring an extra copy of your transcripts. I sent all 5 of mine together and they were signed for and they told me that they didn't have two of them. I swear administration will drive you INSANE. Just expect this.

Wages here are awful. Yes LPNs are still in demand in PR. In fact we have an LPN in our program that works full time. I asked him what starting salary is at his hospital for his job and he said 8.50 an hour. 8 dollars and 50 cents and hour. That is crazy.

I live in La Cumbre which is less then a half mile from school and my roommate and I each pay 375 for rent in a two bedroom, one bath, with yard and washer and dryer in a gated community. Electricity is expensive. The cheapest we have ever paid was 100 and the most was 300 but it was actually more like 220 because they averaged out the month previous and charged us about 120 when it was actually about 200. That was in the summer and hurricane season when it was hot and my roommate was running his AC 24/7. He doesn't have a car and studies at home so racks up a big electricity bill. Also we do have a washer and dryer so have to pay for that electricity as well. A lot of people go to the laundry mat so there electricity may be less but they also have to haul their stuff the the laundry mat and pay there.

But electricity here is super expensive.

I just spoke with a guy last night that is paying 675 without electricity for a place in Isla Verde which is on the beach. He said electricity is about another 125. So 800 a month total which is the most expensive I have heard a student paying. Although I know the areas by the beach can be even more than that. And really people there is nothing special about Condado. Now Old San Juan is adorable but Condado, bleh. And remember if you live on the beach even though it is about 8 miles from school it can take up to an hour in traffic to get to school. Traffic is awful here during rush hour.

Anyway I know you didn't ask about living on the beach but people always do so someone should benefit from that info.

I go one post at a time when I catch up so the LPN working question I answered in the last post.

I don't know how it works if you don't have a Bachelors but have are an LPN. We have a guy in our program who is an LPN and I don't think he has a Bachelors. For our class, we have 60 or so students in the accelerated program and 54 of us had a Bachelors. So the 6 people or 10% that didn't I am not sure what criteria they had to meet but "E" can help you with that.

I can answer any specifics you would like about the program.

Thanks World Traveling Yogi, I appreciate the answers. I spoke with "E" the first of last week, but when I tried to call again, of course I could not get him. I will definitely try again this week. Also would you happen to know if they have a child care center for students?

No there is no day care center at the school. I have never heard of a day care at a University but then again I don't have kids either.

You would have to find someone to watch them but if you ever get in a crunch if the kids are old enough you could bring them to class. Some parents do that every once in a while and believe or not almost all the professors are OK with it. But you obviously can't and would not want to bring them each time.

Isis did u ever get ur acceptance letter?....

Hey

No, I spoke to "E" and he said just show up and it would work out. I couldnt get it together in time, my mom was sick so I dicided to wait a little bit. I will be there in aug! Are you there? How is it? Are you at umet or inter?
