Anyone out there have info on the school in Arecibo, PR? It is a 24 month program that begins in August.

I'd love to hear anything, thanks.

so with just having my ADN from Inter. and i sit and pass the NCLEX, then I am considered a REgistered Nurse then or do i HAVE to finish the BSN program if I decide to come back to Cali? I dont really care for the title "BSN" i just want the title "registered nurse" as I already have my bachelors in a different degree! I just want to get into the medical field as a nurse already! lol...11 months, for $10,000 is cheap! If what you're saying is true, then I am going to send off my application very soon. :)

Specializes in Psych, Substance Abuse.

You will be an RN, but I hear that there are a lot of hoops to jump through in CA. I heard that when the ADN wasn't accredited though, so maybe things have changed. I think that most people are getting the BSN only because it's pretty much impossible to find a job without it. That being said, I am DYING to leave with my ADN, not because I don't love the school (I totally love the school and my fellow classmates and professors) but because we are living with my in-laws and I can not STAND them AT ALL. I'm ready to go back to the states so I will have an ocean between us again LOLLLL

does interamerican offer financial aid, did u guys get financial aid at all, im trying to figure out how to finance all this, also what is the average rent like pls?

Pearlgirl like Dessigner-mommy said you will be an RN. Also like she said most people stay for the whole program because it is extremely hard to find a job as a new grad with a BSN. It is near impossible to find a job as a new grad with only an ADN. The key word here is "new grad." Once you have two years experience finding a job won't be a problem.

My roommate is probably leaving after the ADN but his mom is a nurse and he has some stuff lined up for when he is done. I think that many of us in the program would only stay the year if we had an in and knew we had a job. But the market is awful for new grads.

Also if you plan to continue and do any nursing Masters such as a nurse practicioner program or nurse anesthetist you have to have a BSN. There are some bridge programs but the amount of work you do will include the work for a BSN. It does not matter if you have a Bachelors in another field you will still need to do the BSN studies before continuing.

You can apply for either the BSN or ADN at our school and change from one to another. The ADN is the first year of the two year BSN.

Oh yeah of course. Most people would not be here if they couldn't get financial aid. If you have a Bachelors you can only get loans. But you will have enough loans to live and go to school.

The rent is anywhere from 275 to about 525. Those rates are the lowest I heard people get to the highest. The guy that paid 525 was in a studio and it included electricity and water but he only had a fan and no air con. Right now a fan is just fne but in the summer you WANT AC. The 275 is half of a 2 bedroom that costs 550. I have a four friends that pay that in two different places. That does not include electrictity or water, there is no washing machine and dryer and each of the two places my friends had to buy a major appliance like a stove or a fridge. But two of those friends completely scored and fell into a beach side Condado apartment on accident. You will NEVER find a 2 bedroom in Condodo for 550. They fell into it by accident. This was never listed to rent. Again you will NEVER find a 2 bedroom on the beach for 550 so don't look for it. This is a complete exception. Plus if you live by the beach you have to account for traffic. There were students that were living by the beach and broke their lease after a couple months because the traffic was horrendous.

My roommate and I pay 375 each for a two bedroom with a yard and washer and dryer. Electricity and water are not included. It seems like the only places that have electricity and water included are the studios. But they either don't have AC or the electricity is only included for 50 worth and if they go over they have to pay for it. It is really hard to use AC and stay under 50 USD in the summer.

Dessigner-mommy I miss you guys. Since the first trimester I never see you guys anymore. I hope you finals are going well. I have three down and two to go.

ok, what about getting work study, isnt that typical? or getting a job as a cook or in retail or something so i have some money coming in?

Do you speak Spanish? You don't need Spanish for the program but you must be fluent to get any job. There are a lot of Puerto Ricans in our class that work full time during the day and go to school in our program at night. There is only one guy in our program that moved here from the states that is working. He is completely fluent in Spanish and used to be a Spanish/ English medical translator for a hospital in the states. He spent 4 months looking for a job and finially found something and it is minimum wage. I wouldn't count on it.

I think you may be able to get a little bit of work study. The school pays 7.50 an hour. The actual Puerto Rico minimum wage is 4.10 an hour but no company that I know of pays that low. Most places like Starbucks and retail places pay the federal minimum. But again you have to be fluent in Spanish and Starbucks has students with Masters degrees working there.

You will get enough money in loans to study, pay rent, buy food, do things. There are people that are studying in our program that had ZERO money saved before they arrived. You will have enough money to live on with the federal aid.

@ WorldTraveling Yogi: Thanks a lot. I thought the BSN program was 4 years! If obtaining my BSN requires only one more year than obtaining my ADN then I might as well stick it through. and maybe then my Espanol will improve ;)

I'm so nervous to go and still have not yet applied! Oh, WorldTravelingYogi, would I be applying as a "Undergrad" or "Transfer" or INternational???? As I mentioned in a previous post, I already have my Bachelors degree from here in the states. I dont want to be doing General Ed Reqs. that i've already done.

I don't remember but I don't think it matters because you will be sending them your transcripts. You will not be talking any general ed except History of Puerto Rico and Christian Faith. Those are the two general ed classes the students with previous Bachelors have to take. Aside from that everything else is nursing classes. Take both of them online and those classes are cake. Both an easy A.

I noticed that InterAmerican also has a law school, does anyone know if there is an option for English speakers to study law in Puerto Rico pls, shot in the dark but I thought I would ask!!

Thank you so much for the extra info WorldTravelingYogi and Designer Mommy! I'll be sending off my application on Wednesday, just waiting on one more item. Good luck on your finals!

Is there anyway to get your ADN, take the necessary test for Puerto Rico then work as an ADN while continuing in the BSN program?
