Anyone out there have info on the school in Arecibo, PR? It is a 24 month program that begins in August.

I'd love to hear anything, thanks.

I read somewhere in this forum that the pass rate was extremely high. I'm not sure where that thread is though, sorry! That was quite a while back, too.

They were probably referring to the pass rate for the CRNA examination and not the NCLEX. I emailed "E" today and plan on calling him 11am P.R. time tomorrow to ask him about the applications/pass rate.

Ahh yes, you're right. I found the thread and it was about the CRNA exam. Let me know what E says. I just love him, he's the best :)

MANY people in the program have already PASSED NCLEX....while still in school.

You have to study, as with anything in life.

You cannot rely on the school for you passing the NCLEX.

This is NOT a slam on the school, its a note for you to take responsibility for your future.

It was a hard test. Nobody will pass it just listening to lectures. NCLEX was an active process.

Start reading Saunders NCLEX book IMMEDIATELY!

hey! this post is for everyone concerned about accreditation. i emailed someone with nlnac (the organization that accredits nursing schools). here's the convo:

me:

i am interested in attending nursing school at the iaupr metro campus starting in the fall because i think it would be a great experience for me. however, i am concerned because the accreditation of the school is up for review this fall. if i entered the program in the fall and it lost accreditation, what would happen to me and the rest of the students? have situations like this occurred in the past?

nlnac:

the program you are looking for has been accredited since 1997 and considering accreditation as a voluntary peer-review process; one can only believe that the nursing program is doing all they need to do for the best of the program (students, faculty, resources, etc). nobody has a crystal ball to predict the future but all programs go through continuing accreditation every 8 years and undergo continuous monitoring by nlnac. i hope this answers your question.

nlnac:

hypothetical of course, the program may seek re-accreditation for the next year or cycle and may or may not conferred accreditation.

if they get denied accreditation, you will be a graduate of non-accredited program and may not be able to transfer your credits to another institution of your choice.

while denial of continuing accreditation is a rare occurrence, this is a possibility of course.

Well anything is possible but I do not believe the school will lose its accreditation. They have been accredited for many years and have not lost it yet, so it is highly unlikely they will lose it. Even in the post the person from the NLNAC says its a "rare occurrence" and I don't think my luck is that bad. LOL If anything I am sure the NLNAC will will evaluate the school and make suggestions on how they could better improve things. Then make a few follow up visits to see that things are moving in the right direction. If things are, good for us, but if not that is when we should start to be concerned. I am sure there are many students in the states who want to attend IAUPR and most have done there home work and know you want to go to a school that is accredited by the NLNAC. That being said it would be very beneficial to the IAUPR to do everything in there power to keep there accreditation. See you in august future nurses!!!!!

Yeah, I guess employees of NLNAC can't exactly give you hints - That was a total boiler-plate response. What does continually monitoring mean? Secret agents or just strongly worded emails?

It's not that I'm trying to rain on the parade here. It's just that I don't know of any schools that have done that. I've heard many stories of schools losing their accreditation but not losing it and getting it back the following year. Let's just hope that there is some type of probationary warning where they get a few months to "fix errors" if the have to.

I spoke with "E" again today. Basically, he can't help with any admissions specific OR financial aid questions. He's kinda a buffer for all the gringos to vent their frustration. Apparently, the other Metro campus administrative offices slough off all their preguntas en Ingles on him as well.
