Psych no salary/pay

Published

Hello fellow Pysch NPs,

I had an interview for out patient Psych job. They ask me if I am looking for contract hire or to be employed by them. I'm in The Pacific Northwest region Oregon/Idaho border rural area.

Not sure what is fair pay as this would be first full time psych job. What do y'all psych nps get per hour or salary. No weekends or holidays. No hospital rounds or on call.

I do work part time elsewhere and get paid $130 an hour. I am 1099 there I believe this is the higher end of the spectrum and do not expect the full time job to make such offer with benefits but not sure what would be a reasonable hourly or salary range.

I appreciate your feedback.

Thanks

I didn't know about being able to write of the school if your 1099.

I have been working in hospital. I'm sick of it.

Patrick so to hear that sounds like your burned out

The prospective job seems to have good retention. Some of their PAs have been there many years. It's a rural area. So maybe that's why pay is different in this area too compared to south Florida for example. Will see.

I think hospitals pay the best. Like that rate posted above.

Im doing community mental health again. You commented on another post a while back. Maybe you work in a hospital so the facilities can pay more. Maybe you are a rockstar? I like a slower pace since i can get overwhelmed at times.

The numbers you quote don't seem typical. Or maybe im a schmuck.

.

I work both inpatient and at a local clinic. My rates are consistent, the job with benefits pays $30 an hour less than the job without benefits. I'm decent at what I do and well known but only a rock star in my mind, lol. I share and inquire about compensation with peers and could care less if they think I'm crass. My rates are in line with the NPs I know in a four state area who are into networking and are aware of how much they can command.

Doubtful you are a schmuck, it is more likely either uninformed about what you should be making and or a geographical difference.

I'm totally uninformed. That's why I am here. Lol asking these questions. The offer presented today if employed W2 was 112k no weekends with benefits, 401k , paid holidays And 24 days PTO. Including malpractice. Don't know about CME yet but Iwill be able to get the NSHC 2 year service loan forgiveness which is as plus. This is a rural area. Rate a bit low.

First and most importantly why on earth would you even consider working for $53 an hour when you are making $130 an hour?

Good benefits will never make up for such a terrible annual rate. Keep in mind the clinics that offer tuition repayment are not in any way contributing to the payment so it should not be considered part of their reimbursement. And while YMMV the clinics I know who have this designation are not the most organized and the locale is undesirable. I'd need an extra $40k tax free on top of my current salary to even consider working at the two I'm familiar with because I know the prescribing that has been passed along from one awful prescriber to the next and I'm not interested in the benzo and stimulant roulette game. It is my understanding that if you don't fulfill your obligation the penalty is extremely stiff, not just a matter of paying back the bonus you have received but there are fines in addition?

The 130 an hour is at a part time job no benefits. Not same location. Full time jobs with benefits will pay less naturally. Considering everything

Add the numbers. I would imagine the extra $158,400 per year might make up for the lack of benefits.

I don't have the option of working there full time . Obviously if I did I wouldnt be looking at other employement options. I'm still going to work at the part time but is only 1 day a week for now.

Forget the $130 part time job.

It caused confusion.

If you were in the search for a full time psych job. What would be a reasonable rate with benefits. ?no weekend no holidays . pTO. Including malpractice and CME

Trust the $130 an hour isn't causing me any confusion. That would be my established rate. It is unfortunate you are willing to give up on that opportunity as it relates to your next job. In my area a new grad PMHNP should start at a minimum of $150,000 a year regardless of tuition reimbursement.

Ok didn't know that. I havent accepted anything yet. That's why I am here! Ok so I should let them know is a low ball!! Lol. And it's not even tuition reimbursement is loan repayment which I just read is not guaranteed. !!!! What part of the country are you in?
