Psych Process Recording

Published

HI everyone!

I need help! We are doing a process recording for our psych interview. We are to list moods and affects of both myself and the patient and then do an analysis of the interaction. I have no idea where to find an example of how to do this. Our instructor isn't showing us an example of what it should look like so I am completely lost. If anyone has any idea or any examples they could post I would really appreciate it. Thank you so much.

I cant post my example doc cuz if the school ever recognized I'd be in big trouble hehe.

Ours is a table with 5 columns (you can add others for your affect and mood which we dont have). Each row is for a different part of the convo and you write it in order of the convo and only include one convo unless your school told you otherwise.

The 5 columns from right to left are: your statement, descr of therapeutic response, patient's statement, patient response/defense mechanism, comment

An example is:

my statement: I see how that would be upsetting. Then what happened?

therapeutic response: reflecting, offering general leads

patient statement: the staff made us stop

pt response/defense: explanation

Comment: nothing here because I chose one that wasnt controversial/hippa violating etc

look up the therapeutic responses and defense mechanisms in your psych book and apply them.

you are not ever likely to find an example of one of these either, but most nurses know what they are and have had to do at least one when they were in school. i put together some weblinks with information on how to do them as well as therapeutic communication information which you need to know to complete these: https://allnurses.com/forums/2489678-post39.html basically, they look like a script (you said, then the patient said) along with commentary of the nonverbal action that was going on as well. [did you ever read a play? it's kind of like that.] what is very different, however, is that you have columns to analyze this dialogue which is where those principles of therapeutic communication come in. on the ones we had to do, we had to identify the type of therapeutic response (or block) we used, whether it was effective or not and if it wasn't effective what would have worked better. you'll be glad to go back to doing care plans after this. have fun!

Have you checked your psych book? Our book has a step by step example and a sample one.

i'm not sure what you mean by this. but as far as i know, everyone fudges the interview a bit. sure, you record it to the best of your memory, but you also make it colorful to suit the assignment. it's not like the the instructor is going to go back and ask the the crazy schizo if you actually talked about something or not :)
