Here is a question i have regarding Psych nursing outside ontario.
Please correct me if i am wrong and excuse my ignorance, from what i have gatherd which isint much just a few google searches, Out west you have your LPN and RN , and a RPN is considerd a Registerd Psychiratic Nurse. and here in ontario RPN is Registerd Practical Nurse.
If i were to move out west hypothetically speaking and get licenced as a LPN, would i still qualify to work in a psychiatric setting? I am currently a RPN ( Registerd Practical Nurse) here in ontario working on a forensics assessment unit.
Would status Tump experiance in this sort of situation?
Any information would be great!
Cheers!

If you found a psychiatric setting that was hiring LPNs then yes, you could apply for the position.

What do you mean "would status trump experience"?
RPN are registered nurses who specialize in mental health care. LPNs out west have psychiatric education as part of their basic education and can take additional courses in mental health which are often requested as "desired" in the job posting.
I know several LPNs who work in Mental Health and they have all taken additional education in the are.

I have heard that the psych hospital here is phasing out lpns. We've been told we can't preceptor there because they do not follow lpn scope of practice. They have some there now but as they move on those positions are going to rpns.
