Prophecy Testing

I wasn't sure where to post this but here it goes. I have been a nurse for only 4 years and have had the opportunity recently to start traveling. I have already completed one assignment for 13 weeks. I had to take the PBDS test and I was very nervous about it because I heard so many negative opinions on it. It definitely wasn't a fun test, but I did pass it and am very proud of myself.

After my first assignment ended, I decided to just go back to working full time. I have had a really difficult time finding work. I keep calling the nurse recruiter at the hospital and she has not given me any information about if I have gotten the job or not.

I have been working with a local agency to find jobs here and there. So far I have been cancelled 5/9 times. I don't get very many options of where to go because I have only worked med-surg. So I decided that I would give traveling a chance again.

I don't mind taking tests, but I have taken so many it's ridiculous already. So I am asking if there is anyone out there that have taken the Prophecy Exam. I would like to know the test format if possible and any other information about this test. I don't like to take a test without knowing what it's about, and I need to pass it so I can work.

I had to take that danged test, and because it had so many i.v. Drip rate questions, i missed it by three points!

I took the test a second time with the formula's in front of me, and i ran out of time on the test! Math takes me forever to figure out, and i almost "never" have to calculate drip rates. Ha.

Now i find out that you can only take that test three times. Period (i sure wish someone had told me that). The test has the same questions every single time. I advise anyone taking this test to copy it so that they do not run out of time in case they have to repeat it.

The next time i take it, i really have to be up on my drip rates and conversions. It is a real pain in the neck, but i want to work for hospice through my agency. I looked everywhere on the net for the actual test and could not find it, so, fyi, the exam consists only of 30 pharmacology questions, and gives you only 30 minutes to complete it, and you must have a passing grade of 73%, good luck!

Sort of sounds like profiling to me.

Well, i am getting "old"! If you don't use the i.v.'s every day, it takes you longer to calculate the drip rates, especially when they give you complicated word stories! I copied the questions i got wrong, and since the questions never change on the test, i worked them out with the correct answers and will re-take the test tomorrow, with the answers already "in hand".

Third time is a charm, they say..........if anyone needs help with this particular test, i would be more than happy to assist, as i have found the time constraints to be appallingly unfair.

I failed the test on Monday. After taking 7 years off to take care of my kids I feel totally unprepared for this test. I passed my OB competency test though. I know all of that stuff. If you can remember ANYTHING from the test it would be super helpful! Thanks

Go to the website: Drug Calculations Quiz Page. This is the "BEST" to use. I practiced and practiced until I got it right, and I made a 100% on that "prophecy test".

Also, another hint, be sure to print out your test questions that you got wrong, so that you can figure out the right answer before you re-take the test. That also helps quite a bit, because if you get the "test jitters" (like I do), then you will be glad you did, if they happen to ask you the same question again.........which I noticed that they do. Anyhow, the third time is a charm...Good luck!--Tamarra

I did highlight the website, but for some reason it did not come up in my message to you.

The web site is called "testandcalc", so if you go to www and then .com, it should come up for you. Good Luck!--Tamarra

I was recently laid off. Some background- I was a clinical educator and trauma program manager at my last job and had been on the test team taking the prophecy tests. I had done VERY well on the situational and attitudinal tests. I had been a successful employee of ten years with glowing annual performance reports. Well respected, liked by staff, considered a resource.

Anyway, after I was laid off I applied for an Emergency Department position- the unit I had been in prior to the lay off and where I had been very successful. I had to officially take the Prophecy tests during the application process despite still being an employee.

This time, I scored very low in the attitudinal test. So I actually have some concerns about the test. Clearly my test was skewed due to my emotions after being laid off. The attitudinal issues it 'prophesied' have not been evident in my ten years of employment so do beware that one's situational environment can very much effect your results.

As to time, it didn't take me near 3 hours to complete, the four tests probably took an hour and a half. How effective is it for the organization? Not so sure, turnover continues to be high so I don't know truly how helpful the testing has been.

Morale here- make sure to bulk yourself up prior to taking the attitudinal tests. Get a massage, do what you need to do to feel go. Don't ever, ever take the test after having negative or sad things happen in your life as I did, right after a lay-off. That will show.

@molly42 & @rgig (below) - The Pharmacology components can be a bit challenging if you are not familiar with the conversions. For that reason, our content outline (which is available prior to taking the exam as a downloadable PDF) includes the conversion rates & formulas that will be needed.

You mentioned wanting to any information that might be helpful - so here is a website that talks a bit more about our Prophecy RN Pharmacology Test. Check it out - and let me know what you think!

Prophecy's RN Pharmacology Exam

As always, I will recommend to anyone taking the assessments to read all of the instructions so that you find all of the downloadable study prep material before starting your initial attempt at the test. The Pharmacology Content Outline has been very helpful to clinicians completing the assessment when they take the time to use it for preparation purposes.

Good luck!

I dont know if this will help, but here are some sample test questions and answers I found on the web that can help you study for up coming employment test.

Prophecy testing sounds incredibly creepy.

I can see this as a test given to high school kids so that they can think about what career would interest them/they could excel in based on their answers.

However, to give it to adults mid-career is flawed. Answers would depend on work experience, life experience. Subjective. And as a pp said, much like profiling.

And if you are like me and can see many sides of the same issue, then I would be out of my head with those kind of tests.

The pharmacology testing, however, many take when they are hired at facilities. There are "formulas" that you can use. I would write them down to have them on you at all times. I look at it as "what you have" and "what you need" to set it up. It was really difficult for me at first, as my "math" had always consisted of basics. This is an alternate way of looking at basic math.

Good luck to all who are taking tests!!

prophecy asks a questions and gives you 4 multiple choice options. you usually have to score over 80% to pass. if you don't pass, click on the details info. and it will give you the questions you missed and your incorrect answer. the recruiter can 'reset' the test so you can take it again.

the tests are pretty easy but it's ridiculous that a seasoned nurse should have to take them at all. they are NOT relevant. when they first came out i was working as a tele nurse and our facility made us take the tele/strip test. over 2/3 of us flunked them. (they didn't fire any of us btw).
