Proper undergarments under WHITE PANTS

Nurses Professionalism

Published

Ladies, why is it ok in anyone's mind to wear colored underwear, bikini underwear, or underwear with writing all over them under your WHITE UNIFORMS!?? Why is that ok I ask over and over...no one thinks that that is a bit unprofessional? Really? if we aren't professional in every way then we aren't professional nurses at all..ladies take pride in yourself wear the proper underwear under your white uniforms..

Years ago, I worked with a nurse who had gained quite a bit of weight since she bought her white polyester uniforms. At the same time, the uniforms themselves had become rather worn and thin. Management took her aside and offered the information that the entire hospital could see the print on her underwear, and that perhaps underwear ought not to be seen or noticed.

In what I thought was probably not the result intended, my colleague came to work the next day with the same too-tight white polyester uniforms -- sans underwear. That sight was unappetizing to say the least.

The day after, she was back to wearing her colorful panties with stripes and polka dots.

YOU just made me spit my coffee onto my iMac!

Ouch! Thanks for sharing. I wish everyone was walking around with their Eyes Wide Shut...especially women in management because we know the men won't say a thing!!

Ummm YOU are wrong my dear. I am in management and I will tell you flat out. Too much of something is not good.

Why does it have to be battle!! It's just not proper attire...Why have a dress code if you can't enforce it? Good grief!

If you think this is a battle, you should see what goes on in a military installation. Family members can't walk around on base looking like you are going to the club...yada, yada, yada....

If we call ourselves professionals, we need to act like professionals. Have you seen doctors act like nurses do in an open forum? No, they do it behind closed doors and keep it shut. We on the other hand, like to air our laundry for all to see and hear.

And behind closed doors they are worst than women...but change starts somewhere whether behind closed doors or in an open forum...I just hope and wish for some to think before they dress for the workplace..that's all..

Tan/Nude underwear are the best!

Ok, from a male nurse POV, I am dying laughing here reading these . It never fails that the ladies who shouldnt be wearing something "viewable" whether it be from stretched pants or any other reason are the ones who do this most often, and the ones who (as a man) would be welcomed to wear this garb don't. I say after 21 years in the military that having a dress code is the key to appropriate attire no matter the facility. With political correctness, unions, as well as personal rights, its more difficult to ensure people wear what most would feel is deemed appropriate. A well written policy that is signed upon new hire is the key to keeping this from being an issue.

White totally shows too though! Has to be flesh-colored. Whatever color your flesh happens to be.

So glad you said this! As an African American nurse white underwear would be like a neon flashing light on my behind under white scrubs!

I haven't owned white scrubs since nursing school. They are so impratical.

Unfortunately the hospital I work for have nurses wearing white. Every time I'm putting my uniform I still say to myself "this is the brightest idea to have ER nurses wear all white to work." Obviously whoever made that choice was never a nurse. And it is a sore for the eyes to look at nurses wearing all kind of panties: polka dots, pink, different shape and colors. white underwear does not look cute under white uniform no matter what they say. I am dark skin so I found that black panties don't show under my uniform. So I mostly wear nude or black. Also if you don't have firm butt, please don't wear tongue/bikini...

Haven't had to wear whites since Nursing School. And I'm very thankful for that, haha. I still recall a rather embarrassing day in my Med Surg Rotation. One where the floor nurses (who actually liked me quite a bit), made much ado about what they could make out past the required white pants. I earned my secondary certification in blushing and creative use of clipboards the following few days left in that rotation.
