So I recently took and passed my medsurg certification exam with the understanding I would receive a 5% raise once certified. My director has been pushing us for some time to get certified. She specifically told me that once I passed I would become a clinical ladder 3 which would give me a 5% raise. She strongly encouraged me to do this... so I did. Now she says she can't give me the raise, but I'm still a level 3. Woo hoo. I'm so bumbed. So yea I just did it for the money... it is just frustrating. Esp since I was the only one on my unit that actually took the initiative to do it. Thanks for letting me vent.

Well I just applied for a position in the ICU. I've been wanting to do that for a long time. I've just been afraid of change.... We'll see what happens. Wish me luck!
Good for you and good luck! Things like this really burn me. It is just not cool to mess with someone's income or back down on a promise. I wouldn't suggest making a fuss because that usually backfires but I was going to suggest just biding your time while looking for another job. If I can't trust the people I work for it is time to find another job.

Okay, so I've slept on it and I'm still really mad. My DH thinks I need to go meet with my boss's boss and make a stink about this. But honestly I'm afraid to stir the pot. I don't want to lose my job over this and my unit is currently over staffed. My DH says a verbal contract is still a contract and they are obligated to give me the raise. I don't know about all that.
I'm thinking about just applying for an open ICU position within the hospital and just saying the heck with it.
Oh and another thing. My boss's boss is also her best friend. How convenient. I do have her email address and I could email her but it is a lot easier for someone to say no in an email than in person.
