Profs who round down damper my day

Profs who round down when I have a 89.89% to a B+ even though I did better on the second test, worked hard, attended every class and did every assignment kinda puts me in a bad mood. It's pretty freaking subjective especially when the syllabus had no grading rubric. To him, it's like B+, A- whatever, but when it comes down to internships, jobs, grad school, every little bit helps. Do they have to be that strict?! In the mathematical world 89.5 or more rounds up and 89.4 or less rounds down. I know very few got As in the class so he's definitely not just handing As out. ALSO, the last test had a couple grading mistakes, so couldn't this test just have easily had some, too?! Since it's end of the school year, we'll never know.

I was nervous to email my prof because that gives up my modest appearance and lends me to the whiny brat. But I really worked hard, and if I didn't do it, I would always wonder if it would have at all helped. Besides, I'm sick of being the modest, humble, easy to work with girl, because it has gotten me nowhere except being stepped on or being told I'm "nice." Time to give that up and get what I think I deserve - helped when I sought a promotion.

I would take a 90% rounding down as an A any day in my program! All my nursing courses require a 93% to be an A!

We don't get our grades rounded at all, so consider yourself lucky to get them rounded. We could have a 91.9999 but nope it will still be a B.

The last 2 semesters I have been 0.02 (which was 1 question in ALL the tests) away from an A (which is a 92% BTW, not a 90%) and I still get a B. The same grade that a person who gets a 83.0% gets. Sure it frustrates me, but that is part of nursing school.

I was telling my husband about this and saying how sad it was that we had someone in our class fail out d/t 1 question, and his response was true and very humbling. He said they didn't miss by one point, they missed by all those other questions, plus one point. When you think about it, be happy you are one point from an A not one point from passing ;)

i would've have asked the instructor. i don't think he/she would've looked at you funny since you're standing at a 89.89, rather than a 69 and asking for help to pass the class. maybe he'she would've given you the .11 since they know how hard you've worked to be at a 89.89.

i think it does look bad when someone is not passing and they ask for points, but for someone on your shoes, i think they would consider it since you have a good average.

Our teachers dont round either and it really sucks! We have to maintain a 75% to stay in the program, and I know a guy that got a 74.8 and a girl that got a 74.5. They are both not being allowed to come back this upcoming semester!

Also, we had to make a 90 on our dosage calculations final exam, no matter what your grade is.. I understand that you have to be able calculate doses & etc. But I know a girl that made an 89, and she's having to retake the class. I also know a girl that made in the 90's on EVERY test during the class, but didnt make a 90 on the final & is having to retake the class. (we get to retake the class since it's an elective... Ppl who werent in the class were also given a math exam & if they did not score a 90, they had to register for the class). But an 89? COME ON! And this girl that made in the 90's on EVERY test except the final? Whats the point in us even having tests, if they dont count for anything?

Sorry, I'll quit rambling on. I love school, no matter how much I complain about it!!

The professors at my school would think we were joking if we asked to be rounded up to an A because we were .11 away from it. Unfortunately, our profs seem to think that passing at all is great, and you're greedy if you're that upset that you didn't get an A. It's frustrating.

I made an 89.76 in one class this past semester, and it was rounded up to an A. Arkansas universities don't recognize plus and minus grades so we only get letters. It was the same way ten years ago when I started my first degree.

I hate academia now. Other than 2007 I've taken at least one college class every year (nearly every semester) since I got my B.S. degree. I used to enjoy it as a hobby, plus it was good come tax time. Now that I'm a full-time student again I despise it.
