I love Middle School. They are old enough to know names of their teachers, parents and to spell their own name. They are little enough that they still can have open minds and they love learning. But they are also old enough that you can shake your he...

I have a student with narcolepsy and cataplexy. He is on medications at home to help keep him awake, but also has a 30 minutes lunch nap written into his 504. He is difficult to awaken when he forgets his medication at home, but is aware enough to le...

Had a kiddo come to the front office to get a bandaid for a teacher. Came back a bit later saying it wasn't bit enough and that maybe the nurse should come. I grabbed a few things and headed to the opposite side of campus. Found the teacher on the fl...
I agree! I'm lovin my sassy middle schoolers. They know their teacher's names and their parents phone numbers. They know if it is a stomach ache or nausea. And they don't cry if you give them sass right back. I feel like I can have conversations inst...
londonflo, I think school nurses get lumped in with the teachers for lower pay and other less than stellar perks of the job in education. At our "nurse's station" we are just venting about not getting the same kind recognition. We are not looking for...
Uuggg!
Our illness guidelines this whole year, if you are sent home sick with Covid symptoms, return after ten days, a negative Covid test or alternate diagnosis from Dr. Five months of this. Mom calls yesterday, "I know that you said ten days ...

On the opposite end, we might be happy that they travel. We are so bad here that it might be good for people to get out of the state. haha Sorry for ours that visit ya'll.

Just had a teacher send a kiddo down to my office for sniffles and a cough. We are in a high risk category, so policy says all Covid symptoms go home for 10 days. So no wrestling for him either.
Here's the fun part. It is three minutes before th...
Oh that would be my dream come true! I feel like each year my immunization numbers get worse and worse, but until my district thinks it is important enough to enforce exclusion........
We have a screening area that is not my office. Daily meds, diabetics, scrapes etc. can come to my clean office, but others go to the screening area for a quick assessment and then wait in a quarantine room for pick up if needed.
Now that we are officially, soft-closed for the year, our district is focusing on working on paperwork that we haven't been able to get to and have wanted to implement. Does anyone have a policy or protocol for nasal Versed and for stock Epinephrine ...
Haven't heard much of this either until about 10 minutes after reading this post. Had a kiddo ask me if I had to go to school to be a school nurse, like real nurses do. Um yup, got the letters behind my name to prove it too.
Got a call through the front office of an emergency, a medical emergency. Front desk asked twice if it was a true emergency and was reassured that it was. Nurse and wheelchair was needed. So I left my low diabetic, grabbed my bag and wheelchair and w...

Had a drama llama in my office for a broken/sprained ankle with no marks or swelling, no wincing or grimacing as I poked and prodded it. Told him to head back to class without ice. Saw him in the hall a few minutes later. "Nurse, it still hurts REAL...
My complaint is with the teachers who send middle school students, their aides, to my office with instructions to bring back tyelnol or ibuprofen for them. In what universe would that be a good thing??♀️ (I might not be very nice in my reply.)
My SRO (local PD) will pick them up from my office and transport them to the PD disposal. But smart idea to have them sign off on what they take. I should do that.
Someone on here somewhere said they asked kids what they do at home for this. (whatever "this" is) I had a kiddo in who said they were doing nothing for it at home. I told him we would continue the course of treatment. I laughed, he didn't.

Middle school here, and we have kids who are office assistants for their elective. They love to roam the halls with a purpose and a pass collecting backpacks.
